Any chance Tkachuk might sign for a year or two at the Giordano cap? Might allow the team to go into the season without having to trade anyone, if they decide to buyout Stone.

Darren Haynes just mentioned that the Flames’ window doesn’t close until Friday.

For those wondering the fate of Michael Stone and if he will be bought out to give the Flames some cap relief, I can confirm that Calgary’s buyout window doesn’t close until Friday (that’s later than my original understanding) so there is still plenty of time left on that clock.

Alright. So we'll either hear something Thursday or Friday at 10:00 AM, or nothing at all

Edit to below: thanks Freeway! That clears it all up.

Provision in SPC related to buyouts:

"(ii) For Clubs who have Club or Player elected Salary Arbitration filings pursuant to Article 12, within the forty-eight (48) hour period beginning on the third day following the later of: (i) the Club's receipt of its last salary arbitration award; or (ii) settlement of its last case (provided such award was received or such settlement occurred prior to 7:00 p.m. New York time; awards or settlements that occurred or were received at or after 7:00 p.m. New York time will be deemed to have occurred or received the following business day for purposes of this provision)."

But this gives us a clue into the window for buyouts and how it's calculated... since New York signed it's last arbitration case the day before Calgary did. So if my math is right... we have at least one more day.

No, I really don't think so. There is no incentive for Tkachuk to do this. No long term security, still an RFA at the end of his deal, no huge dollar figure.

Can't see Matthews signing a 58 million dollar deal, Aho signing a 42 million dollar deal and then Tkachuk signing a 13.5 million dollar deal.

My best guess is we are looking at 5-6 years.

Since he'd preferably want to sign a deal that takes him straight to UFA (but at large dollars) (not necessarily to leave, but to increase his leverage come UFS time at a young age), I can't see why he would do this.

He might sign a short term deal if he got $8.5M or so.
