Tippett didn't kick em off the ice, Coach McDavid said he was done practicing for the day and taking his buddy, his pal Nurse with him, and that Tippett should shut the hell up and make sure his towels are folded and fluffy before practice tomorrow.

I guess the other guys on the team had plenty of energy since that ahole coach won't trust them to you know play, and screw that guy.

We'll be getting a nauseating amount of coverage about how McAvi is 1 point shy of tying Crosby's games played race to 500 points.
But since they won't mention it anywhere in the media tonight:
In the first 5 years of his career, McAvi has 1 playoff appearance.
At the same point in his career, Crosby had been to the playoffs 4 times, lost in the cup finals once, and then won the cup in 08/09, his 4th year in the league.
Crosby >>> McCovid

I think that is obvious to everyone outside Edmonton and on Sportsnet, no?
In any event, I am listening to SN960 right now, and I think I heard them say that Crosby got to 500 faster than McAvi. Does anyone have the actual numbers?

It's actually not. It's frustrating to see people who are new NHL fans get fed this lie that the Oilers are somehow good nad McDavid is the greatest player in history.
I know a lot of casual hockey fans who seem to think McDavid and the Oilers are the top of the crop. They must be. Every NHL Instagram highlight is a McDavid one, even from games in which they lose. Popular YouTubers focusing solely on McDavid's supposed awesomeness, despite statistical evidence to the contrary. I was explaining to my buddy from England how I just don't understand why the NHL pumps the tires of this s*** team in this s*** city in the middle of Canada's tundra. Even before McDavid got there. It just doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective.

The Oilers vs Jets series are going to be crucial to whether or not they make the Playoffs (they play 9 times).
So far the Jets are up 2-1, but all the games have been close. It should be a fun game to watch again tonight.

It looks like Crosby scored his 500th in his 369th career game.
Tonight is McAvi's 369th career game and he currently sits at 499 career points.
Crosby had 4 points that night and ended the game with 501 points, which means he had 497 points through 368 games. So Connor is ahead of him... if you ignore the Stanley Cup and Olympic gold medal GWG that Crosby also had at that point in his career.
EDIT: Also, in that same time, Crosby had 63 points in 49 playoff games. McAvi has 18 points in 17 playoff games.

It is eerie that both of them are within two points of one another this late into their careers.
I won't be surprised to see McAvi quickly overtake Crosby moving forward. Crosby worked his ass off to reinvent and improve his game year after year; to become the best, most complete player in the world, and it required big sacrifices on the offensive side of the puck. McAvi and the Oilers don't seem to care much about anything beyond sick dangles and crossovers. Hell, I am betting that Crosby would have gotten to 500 a lot quicker if he was only interested in making hilight-reel plays all those years.

For reference,
At the time of the trade, Lucic was owed only $16 million on his contract, while Neal was owed $23 Million. Edmonton had already paid Lucic $3 million of signing bonus a couple weeks before the trade, half of his total compensation for the upcoming season at the time.
However, the Oilers retained 12.5% of Lucic’s contract, or $2 million over the 4 years, so the Flames only have to pay Lucic $14 million over the 4 years.
That’s a real dollar savings of $9 million over the 4 years.
Altogether, the trade works out to be:
James Neal
For
Milan Lucic
3rd round pick in 2021
$500,000 per year salary cap savings (x4 years)
$9 million is real dollar savings for the owners.
The salary cap savings was critical in signing Tkachuk without having to trade another piece away.
That real dollar savings was a significant factor to the owners, even if it doesn’t matter as much to the fans.

No, he doesn't. McAvi has 9 in 13. The Oilers did not make the playoffs last year.

Connor actually had solid +/- numbers early in his career. He has only become McAvi in the last few seasons.
Sid was +43 and Connor is +44.

How can McLottery have 17 playoff games? He only has one playoff appearance.

Of course, this is correct.
9 points in 13 playoff games, and 9 points in 4 purgatory games.

It was only two rounds.
But now I see OP was including the qualifying round points.

Yeah, my mistake, the NHL classifies the play-in round last season as playoff statistics.

They lost to the Ducks in the second round. Whenever someone talks about the Oilers amazing playoff "run" of 2017, remember they only won one round.

Blame the NHL for qualifying individual production in the play-in games as playoff points. I don't get it at all.
