That change happened for obvious reasons later on. In truth, I also attended at the time it was the Hawks, but my older brother was there for the Hustlers years.

I think its ridiculous how we dance around "the N word" when discussing the issue, like we are all so immature you can't even utter it in the context of the discussion without being labelled.
The word is prolific in our society, I hear it more than any native slur, in music, film etc. How can you not have it creep into your vocabulary?
I don't go around using it and I don't condone it, but I also don't think we have to act like we are swearing in front of a group of 4 year olds when discussing the issue.

Context absolutely matters, at least to me. If I came across a white person saying "You can't call black people ######s." I would not be offended in the slightest and I would actually thank them for standing up for us. I also think it is harder to teach children not to use racist terms if you don't educate them on what they are and why they are so hateful and hurtful.
Calling someone a Redskin is not okay. Calling someone a ###### is not okay. Saying you should rename a team called the Redskins is okay. Saying you should rename a team called the ######s would also be okay. At least IMO.

I understand the reasoning behind 'taking the word back', and it sounds like a good idea on paper. The reality is that no one anticipated the rampant use in music which led to the term blanketed across popular culture.
I'm not really sure if reclaiming the word was effective, and I'd be happy if it just went away altogether.

Sources tell TSN an internal decision has been made, the Edmonton Eskimos will be changing their name. An announcement could come as early as next week.

I saw someone leaked the alleged survey that the esks used online, will try to find the article.
It was (almost) comically biased. There is no rational way anyone could have claimed results from that survey gave the organization leeway to keep the name, and even the assertion from the club that the results were mixed leaves me to assume that they came back more poorly than the club had even anticipated.
Len Rhodes should get knocked around for this one.
This has the most recent survey (also bad lol) but the one i saw earlier were the supposed original survey questions. Anyways, worth the read.

Other possible "E" words so they don't have to change the logo... Empire, Extreme, Energy, Emotion, Edmittens, Elephants, Electricity, E=NG

The Oilers organization has been pushing the narrative that the name was not that bad according to their surveys and now they are changing the name. Is it possible it wasn't offensive enough for them and they are going to go with something worse?
I mean, it is Edmonton.
