It'd be so weird to be able to ice a Tkachuk-Sillinger-Stillman line with their kids lol.

NHL.com — 5'9", 160. But maybe things have changed since that was last updated.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Size shouldn't play a massive role in prospect evaluation. If you can play, you can play, no matter how big you are. There are plenty of small players in this league. They win the Stanley Cup every year.
All true. Size doesn't matter, with respect to a given player, every team has small players, including every cup winner.

However, that misses the point. Small players are fine, but having a small team IS a problem. And unfortunately, the Flames are already too small, both on their roster, and with their prospects overall.

I sadly see the Flames trading the pick this year.

If it's part of a package for Eichel, then good.

C Aatu Raty,6'1"181lbs (Karpat, Liiga,SWE): 3g/3a/6pts in 35 games, as a power-forward playing against men. He showed much better against his own age-group in the U20 league, with 7pts in 8g. He took part in the 2020 WJC, where he was the youngest player in the tournament, playing mostly 4th-line minutes, scoring 3pts in 7 games. Raty is a big, natural center that can play all 3 forward positions. He is a tireless worker who plays at a high pace, with or without the puck. For a few years, he was touted as a potential first-overall pick, but he's become very enigmatic. Raty is the type of C that's highly sought after, as he plays a sound, 200ft game.

Raty is naturally a shoot-first guy, but he displays great playmaking skills and vision-he can deliver to his wingers at high-speed. He's the kind of player that wants the puck on his stick, as he's always ready to make a pass or shoot, and he can do both with minimal time and space- and he can get the puck through tight spaces. As mentioned, he plays a great 200ft game- he reads the play in the defensive zone extremely well, and his positioning is top-notch. He supports his D down low, takes away the middle of the ice, and when the puck is in his possession, he starts the rush going the other way. His skating is excellent, albeit perhaps not elite, but when he gets going at top speed- it's like a freight train coming through. All aspects of his stride are solid, and he has great balance, and puck-protection. He can perform many directional changes every rush. Always non-stop action- hustles and keeps his feet moving, regardless of whether he has the puck or not. One of his best assets though, might be his shooting, as he has great hands, a powerful shot, and a quick release- but even better is his ability to find time and open space to unleash his accurate wrister. Another of his gifts that's talked about is his elite stickhandling skills- he can move through multiple defenders in traffic, and beat them on the rush.

Raty plays a power-forward game that's physical, chippy, and aggressive. He gets involved in all the dirty areas, and uses his size and strength to his advantage. He will compete in the corners, and along the wall to win pucks. He's effective in the cycle, and extends the play to allow teammates to set up and get open, and he exhibits high-battle in net-front situations. Raty makes a positive impact in transition, both offensive and defensive- he has the speed, puck control, and awareness to skate or pass the puck through the neutral zone with a clean entry, or thwart the rush coming in.

The team that drafts Raty will need to show patience. In the two years prior to this one, his willingness to score from high-danger areas has been steadily diminishing, and since his numbers two years ago were mostly goals with fewer assists, this has killed the amount of points he's put up. He's supposed to be a shooter. With his ascension up from the U18 league in 2018-19, to the men's league this year and higher competition, it's become more and more difficult to do it all by himself-and perhaps he's found the adjustment hard. Now, he has to take the split second to scan for options when he's in high danger for smart plays, or make himself available when he doesn't have the puck- which has sapped his confidence. He's playing a lot more on the perimeter now, as he lacks patience and is afraid to make mistakes. There are those that say he may not have been ready for pro just yet- which is ok, players develop at different rates. He was much more comfortable this year when he played with his own age group. In addition, Karpat has been in an ultra-tight playoff race all year, where 9 of the Liiga's 15 teams had a winning percentage of .655 or higher, and only 3 points separated 3rd from 7th- meaning he was relegated to only 11:37 avg ice-time per night (15th out of 17 forwards). Consider this as well: Karpat was one of the stingiest teams in a league known for being stingy, and only scored 2.47 goals/game (but Raty still generated an above-average 11.8 shots/60 minutes). For a long time, Raty had lost his love of the game, so he may need to be brought along slowly. In addition, he needs time to fill out, and get stronger- which will help his skating come up a notch. At worst, you're getting a middle-6 C with size, speed, and two-way ability-who can chip in on offense and kill penalties. There's still a player here.

LW Brennan Othmann,6'0"174lbs (EHC Olten,SL): Played in the Swiss league this year, with no OHL, putting up 7g/9a/16pts,64PIM in 34 games, third for players under 19. He was one of my favorites from the U-18s where he had 6pts in 7 games. He was drafted 2nd overall by Flint (OHL) and in 2019-20, he had 33pts in 55 games-30th for players under 18. Othmann did most of his damage at even-strength, with 14 even-strength goals-and 24 of his EV pts were primary. There's no doubt that if the OHL was playing this year, his numbers would be huge, and he might have lead the league in goals. Othmann is an offensive weapon with plenty of tools, and plays a power game, and drives play.

One of the main pillars of his game is his shooting ability-he has a deadly shot, with a lightning-quick release, and he can get it off at top speed. He has a goal-scorers mentality, and knows how to find the open areas to receive passes, and unleash his hard, heavy and accurate wrister. He has a knack for being at the right spot. Othmann can score from awkward angles that many others can't-he's one of the best goal-scorers in this draft, and the mechanics of his shot are NHL calibre. Othmann is also a quality playmaker with high-end vision, who creates offense for himself and his teammates. He reads the ice extremely well, and always finds time and space to exploit. Top-notch offensive awareness. He fires off accurate passes with mustard. Plays a heavy game, and is hard to handle in the trenches, or in front of the net. Wins more than his fair share of battles in the greasy areas- he's a load in the corners, and along the boards. He is a physical, aggressive, and impactful player, who forechecks hard, and plays a detail-oriented game. Highly competitive. He's creative and shifty in transition.

Othmann is an above-average skater, not quite as fast as some other prospects. He has good edges and agility to give him some elusiveness, and he can stop, or change direction quickly, but he needs work on his acceleration, top-speed, and explosiveness. He still plays a high-pace game, and employs diverse rush patterns to deceive attackers. He also has advanced puck-protection skills. He is reliable in defensive situations, good at disrupting plays, and has an ever-improving 200-ft game-but there's work to do in that area. Like most kids his age, he needs to fill out and get stronger, especially with the kind of game he plays. There is also some aspects of his puck control that he will need to fix for the next level, as he sometimes struggles with his pass-reception while in flight, and can overhandle the puck. Othmann projects as a possible top-line winger in the NHL- one writer compared him to Brendan Morrow.

LW/C Zachary L'Heureux, 5'11"196lbs (Halifax, QMJHL): Picked 3rd overall in 2019, by the Moncton Wildcats. This year, L'Heureux played for a rebuilding Halifax team that finished 13th out of 18 teams, with 19g/20a/39pts,47PIM in 33 games-2nd on the team in scoring. In 2019-20, while playing for Moncton, he led all rookies in the Q with 55gp/20g/33a/53pts,70PIM, playing on an elite team of veterans. L'Heureux plays at a high pace, and is a highly-skilled, aggressive winger who plays a pro game.

Z owns a vast arsenal of quality shots, all of them quick and powerful. He is patient when in position to score, and is a terrific finisher. Thrives in the low slot-he drives the net, and finishes in-tight. One of the highest goals/60 among Q draft eligibles, as well as scoring chances/60-the latter being higher than Lafreniere's in his draft year. His playmaking is excellent as well, with great offensive instincts-he's a soft-touch passer, and can make plays on the fly. Good problem solver-he adjusts quickly to what unfolds in front of him. Very good at creating rebound chances. Z plays with an edge, and does everything it takes to win-he's ultra-competitive and plays like a power-forward. Very tough and mean, strong on the boards, highly physical, and can muscle his way to the net with defenders on him. He thrives in physical games, and not many players are as good as him down low. He's got good puck skills, and is an excellent stickhandler.

L'Heureux exhibits good defensive commitment and awareness- he brings his physicality, aggressiveness and competitiveness with him on the backcheck. Puts pressure on players in the rush. Solid positioning, and won't hesitate to throw an open-ice hit to stop an attacker-breaks up the cycle, and wins pucks with his awareness and physicality. He is a very good skater, and can separate from the pack on the rush. His low center of gravity gives him great balance, making it hard to push him around, and when he has the puck on his stick, few can take it from him. He has good edges and agility, and can change direction quickly.

L'Heureux needs a lot of work on his discipline, as he was suspended 4 times this year. He could stand to improve his long-range passing, as many of these miss the mark. He can be pressured into coughing up the puck, so his puck-control under pressure needs work. Needs to get stronger, and keep building up his skating, as it's not elite. Brad Marchand had 66pts in 68 games in his draft year-just sayin'. We talk a lot about guys like Lucius, and McTavish-I would be just as happy taking this kid at 12.

I've gotten Pastujov a few times in mocks with our 2nd rounder now. I think that would be a huge coup.

Look at that, scored Pastu again in today's Mock lol. Actually had a really good one (safe to say the last three picks are exceedingly unlikely as they are ranked much higher elsewhere).

I have Pastujov gone every time I run it through two rounds.

Interesting to see the simulation moving Corson Ceulemans way up the list on most iterations. One or two of those greatly changes what is available to Calgary.

I think Makar has really changed perceptions about AJHL level play. People look at Ceulemans and wonder if he's got a ton of unshown potential. Had a pretty great U-18 as well.

Brief explanation:

Sorted by "Average" then "Deviation"
Two shaded Central Scouting ranks not included in the average

Final three columns are the ranking moves if you take out the best and worst ranking for each player.

A good example is Nikita Chibrikov. He has an 11 that is an outlier ... if you remove the best and the worst his average falls from 20.50 to 20.8 and he drops two spots.

For Flames specific, if you look at the Adjusted Rank Lucius moves past Sillinger as Lucius has a 25 in his ranking.
New one to potentially add:

Added.

He had McTavish at 25 ... moves him down to 15th on the consensus

Rank Player
1 Owen Power
2 Matthew Beniers
3 William Eklund
4 Luke Hughes
5 Brandt Clarke
6 Simon Edvinsson
7 Dylan Guenther
8 Kent Johnson
9 Jesper Wallstedt
10 Fabian Lysell
11 Cole Sillinger
12 Chaz Lucius
13 Aatu Raty
14 Carson Lambos
15 Mason Mctavish

Think we may see all of Lucius, McTavish and Sillinger on the board when Calgary picks. With Coronato also below and potentially Lysell and Raty I could see Calgary move back a few spots and grab a third (2nd).

Fyodor Svechkov and Fabian Lysell are definitely two guys who seem like exciting prospects that are somewhere in our range.

If Lysell is there at 13, I think that'd be my pick. If Lysell isn't there, I think I'd be pretty happy to land one of Svechkov, Lucious or Sillinger.

Didnt Bob Makenzie have McTavish at 2nd at one point? If the Flames can get him it would be a huge win.
