Why not sit Jankowski and give Bennett a run as 4LC?

That's not a bad idea either.

Don’t forget Bennett has been arguably our best forward the last two trips to the playoffs.

A guy who underperforms during the season (keeping his contract low) but elevates come the postseason?

I’m keeping that guy on my roster. Even if he has to spend some regular season games in the press box.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Backlund
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Bennett - Dube - Lucic

If Mangiapane and Dube can keep up their play they really round out top 6 wingers we have been missing. Allows Lindholm to play center more, Backlund to move around lineup.

The development of those 2 is like the development of Anderson and Kylington on defence. Riitich in goal. Flames internal development really coming along.

2013 - Monahan
2014 - Bennett
2015 - Andersson, Kylington, Mangiapane
2016 - Tkachuk, Dube, Fox

Fox is with another team now, but playing in the NHL.

8 NHLers in a 4 year period is stellar.

Also from 2016, Phillips looks great at the AHL level. If he makes it that will be 4 NHLers from one draft with Tuulola and Parsons still kicking around and not done yet as well as Lindstrom over in Sweden.

Pretty solid, if not spectacular.

Imagine if Bennett had hit his elite projections or they would have hit on someone else later on in that draft, like Point?

Treliving himself has said you have players that help you make the playoffs and players who help you win in the playoffs.

Sometimes they are the same player sometimes not.

I'm with you, I'm not giving up on him just yet. 300 games or not he is still younger than Mangiapane.

Yeah, that guy who was a big part of 2 swift first round exits and who had a modest 2pts and 5pts respectively in those series' is surely worth holding onto forever.

The guy wasn't even a + in either of those series either.

Face it. Sam Bennett is no good.

I honestly get the disappointment with Sam Bennett given his draft position. But the need to push him out of the lineup and potentially out of the league every few weeks or so just makes me shake my head.

Bennett is 10th on the team in production / 60 minutes ... that's actual production not just scoring chance rates.

He's 7th in shots / 60
2nd in expected goals / 60
6th in scoring chances /60
and 8th in high danger / 60

He's not even close to a player that won't be reinserted when healthy.

The penalties he takes are annoying, but he's not even the biggest perp when it comes to penalty differential as Frolik is -6 to his -3 (Giordano and Brodie are -4)

Is it really spectacular? I bet this is fairly commonplace for most teams...the question will be in 4-5 years how many are still in league. Possibly all of them, or possibly only 3-4

The 2016 draft? That's what I was calling spectacular.

They already have 3 NHLers from one draft, and still high potential for at least one more.

Getting four NHLers out of a single draft is spectacular without a doubt.

You're right - I should have questioned the 'stellar' line. I do think it looks promising, but we've seen plenty of promising guys like eat-bread, Dube, and Kylington not pan out.

LOL.

2017. Scored two of the team total nine goals and was -1, which was tied for team best among Flames who played more than one game.

2019. 5 points in 5 games. Two clear of next closest (Tkachuk had 3) and was even (three forwards were +1 and they all had less points than Bennett combined).

Is your point that because the Flames sucked so must have Bennett?

He was a beast and the furthest culprit of our early exits. All for a very affordable salary. There’s a reason a bunch of teams are sending in offers trying to steal him away, and Treliving is laughing them off, just like your post deserves.

His point was that the sample size is so small it's negligible. Heck, Kris Versteeg led the team with 4 points in 4 playoff games in 2017. Is he a playoff beast too...?

Sam Bennett sure is more impressive in the playoffs than Sam Reinhart.

Sam Bennett’s played 20 playoff games in his career and has always left me impressed by his game.

As someone pointed out, his type of game is built for playoffs. His reckless abandon style that is penalized during the regular season is suddenly acceptable and he becomes extremely valuable.

These guys could very well decide the fate of the franchise over this next 3-5 year window. Do they develop into impact players or role players? So far I see Anderson as the most likely to have a big impact but Dube has really impressed as of late. Still such a small sample size to really know though. If he could turn into a legit top 6 forward that would be huge. Even if he doesn't, if him and Mangipane both turn into legit 20 goal scorers that could provide the depth to overcome a lack of high end talent. The way I see it is you either have super high end talent in your top 6 with a well rounded bottom 6 or you have to have crazy depth through all lines.
