Watched both games this year with my 16 year old son, and both on TV (game one) and live (last night) all he can see is Mark Giordano mistakes. He's good (or smart enough) to bend on an overall opinion towards the negative, but he's conditioned to think less of the guy and he can't see anything else.
I think a lot of people have these filters.

I think I may have a few of these filters in relation to certain posters. It can, and does get in the way of an objective conversation.
I know I had a difficult time acknowledging any good play Brower made, because I disliked so much about his game.
That said, Monohan is a great #1 center and he belongs between Gaudreau and Lindholm.

Huh, could have sworn this was a Lindholm thread. Maybe the Monahan stuff could be taken elsewhere?

It has been established that "Love" is a troll, so please, for the sake of all things holy, don't respond to his non sense and double please, don't quote him. I really don't want to read his post.
Thanks in advance.

It would be a super nice feature for the ignore list to also ignore quotes

Ferland is off to a hot start as well. This could end up being one of those trades where both sides win and got what they needed.

The best part about our part of the deal though is that we have Hanifin and Lindholm locked up for 6 years each. The Hurricanes could very well have none of the 3 players they acquired in 3 years. Meanwhile, the Flames' duo will be halfway through their deals.

I'm torn. I want Ferland to do awesome, but I also want to win that trade.
Silver lining: Hamilton is currently their #4 D (according to TOI/GP at least).

At this point so long as Lindholm and Hanifin excel in Calgary, who cares about the Hurricanes? I am pretty happy to see Ferland do well, but declaring “winners and losers” in trades is overrated.

What you look for you will never cease to find.
Thats why when we are too close to a situation that's driving us nuts we ask the opinion of an outsider, they have no personal stake in it and can offer observations without seeing things through a biased lens.
Same goes for talk in here. When a guy that didn't play a full season won you 10 games of your 37 wins off his stick last year and is scoring a goal per game to start the season and he's still not considered up to par for his position, then surely nothing short of a peak Crosby or Mcdavid performance from game to game will cut it for these posters, and even those guys have off nights.
The greatest difference in games that a player can make at the end of the day doesn't come from flashy stick handling, a physical presence, or even puck possession, it comes from putting the puck in the net, and even more so doing it at key times. And no one on the team does that better than Monahan. Outside of transforming into a very small handful of guys that are better at it, you cant ask much more if you want a guy that can help you win games, regardless of style points.
Most ridiculous player beef to have it you're a fan of the flames winning.

I want to see Ferland do well, full stop. Would love it if the guy scored 30+ goals.
Now although I have no bad feelings towards Dougie, I do find his TOI fun to watch. He was 6th among their defensemen in game 2.
His TOI with the Flames wasn’t that high until he started playing with Gio IIRC.

The Flames desperately needed a RH shot capable of playing in the top 6 for years to come.
It was so evident last year and a big reason why we had trouble scoring goals, all of our offensive weapons up front were lefties.
So many more options are available when you have talented guys with both left and right shots.
Hopefully Czarnik continues to build chemistry with Tkachuk and we can have some more RHed options for the top 6.
Glad we made that trade, as Hanifin is a beauty as well..
It's funny because we probably would have drafted whoever Carolina didn't in 2013 and now we have both...
While in the 2015 draft we traded our 1st, 2nd and the following years 2nd for Hamilton and now we have the guy who went 5th overall in that draft in Hanifin and also managed to draft Andersson and Kylington.
All good assets management moves that will keep our team relevant for a years.

True. I think if it is in your division/conference, you definitely don't want to "lose" a trade.
The best thing when GMs trade outside of their conference though, is that the trades are fair and help both teams. A big part of being a GM is building relationships and mutual trust with other GMs. It makes them more willing to trade again in the future.

Except the Leafs. The Flames should never trade with the Leafs.

We’ll see how it goes, but so far the kid’s a stud. Fits right in with Johnny and Monny. That line has real potential. He looks much better than a 44 point guy, which is what he got last season, I think. But, it’s still VERY early.

Ferly made 1.75 Million roughly to play on the top line. In reality he was a 3rd line player. More useful than Bennett.
