Henrique/Vantanen trade went back to the draft. Cooled down after Theodore trade to Vegas and picked up again when Ducks missed out on Duchene.
Oilers willing to make a much smaller deal involving players like Caggiula, Kharia, Slepyshev
Looking for a d-man or lateral move up front
Hextall won't fire his coach but could make a deal.
Looking to add a forward to his 2nd or 3rd line to be a catalyst but won't trade away any young players.
Everyone made a big deal about Brad Treliving not having a new deal in his final contract year.
Right now there are 5 NHL GMs in the final year of their contract: Holland, Fletcher, Armstrong, Benning, Lamoriello.
Not sure if this is now the new trend with owners and GMs
CHLers Hockey Canada is looking at for the Olympics: Jordan Kyrou, Sam Steel, and Robert Thomas
Tavares says he needs more time before he makes a decision on re-signing but wouldn't rule out signing during the season.

lol, good luck with that.

That or, and he was handled wrong; Saddled with players that couldn't really help his game and then having the expectation of learning to play center.
I think for a young guy confidence can be a bigger issue, maybe that's why Hartley used to talk about letting them young guys play when they have high end skills.

Chiarelli, you already have these players.
Oh, you think someone else will take them?

Sam might yet be an impact player in this league, but I'm really starting to doubt that it will be with the Calgary Flames. I think he's at the stage where he needs a complete reset...and that's hard to do with the same team. 21 or not, there's just a lot of accumulated baggage now.

With Backlund set for a big raise and JVR set for one too it got me think about some of the talk around one of our D for one of Marner or Nylander.. These teams have made large trades in the past and granted T.O. won the two that come to mind at least initially (The Phaneuf/Stajan is debatable at this point) it got me thinking of team needs past this season and if there was a chance to swap pending UFA's in terms of need. Also with the knowledge of Babcock absolutely gushing about Backs from the get go and with how good JVR is down low and being a right winger what would a blockbuster type trade with them look like that is fair. Now obviously this armchair gming and a large part of me would like to hang on to Backs but what do you guys think:
To Toronto:
One of Dougie Hamilton or TJ Brodie
Backlund
Prospect
To Calgary:
One of Marner or Nylander
JVR
2nd rd pick
Both teams are dealing from a position of strength for a position they are weaker at, just an idea. With Versteeg possibly done and Stajan as an extra, these would be pretty fun lines to watch (I've dealt Hamilton and choose Marner (london ties with Matty) in the roster below):
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ JVR
Tkachuk ~ Jankowski ~ Marner
Ferland ~ Bennett ~ Jagr
Brouwer ~ Lazar ~ Frolik
Stajan
Giordano ~ Hamonic
Brodie ~ Stone
Kulak ~ Andersson
Bart
Smith
Rittich

I would do the deal if it was Brodie. I don't think the Leafs do it if it's Brodie. I'd want Nylander but he's going to need a new contract too.

Wow did not know that .. I wonder with the opportunity that he would get here now and with Johnny and Mony being one of the top duos in the league if he we change his mind? Always have liked what he can do in and around the net. He would be amazing for our PP.

That's too bad, I was hoping he might be a good pick-up as well. I still have a feeling we might pick up Rick Nash at the deadline if the Flames are well positioned in a playoff spot.

It is also reported that all the Canadian teams are on Nash's no trade list.

Crosby would be amazing! We'd finally have that #1 center everyone talks about....
I still think a deal involving Kane with a reasonable extension in place would be amazing, even if it means shipping out Brodie+

If the Flames had Gio, OEL, Hamonic, Stone they could afford to move another high priced D out to address scoring issues considering OEL should upgrade our blueline.
I do think OEL is being massively overrated here. I wouldn’t trade Hamilton + for him. They have scored around the same rate and Dougie is younger and signed longer term. OEL has played for a horrible team and in his first year as captain they get off to a historically bad start with a top 4 D that on paper should be top 10 in the league. That is not on his shoulders but I can’t help but think some folks have a grass is greener approach here when talking about Brodie/Hamilton and OEL.
|
Trading Hamilton for a pick in order to take Tkachuk would be lunacy. Hamilton is already a fantastic defenseman. Tkachuk has 10 points in 15 games playing college hockey.
He might be a good player eventually, but he’s not going to be addressing any scoring needs anytime soon.

We shouldn't be giving up young assets for high priced rentals anyways.
I know it's exciting and all, but it rarely pushes a team over the top and isn't conducive to long term success.

I'm fine when american/european players do this. Want to play in the US, weather, less media, blah, blah, blah.
But if a Canadian born players aren't willing to play for a Canadian team, screw you.... Hope you never win a cup wherever your desired trade list takes you.

And I don't mean to crap on your trade ideas. A rental player might be more willing to waive his NTC for a couple of months in a city he doesn't want to be in.
Just telling you what is out there.

Some eklund trade rumours pertaining to Duclair
Quote:
After another night in the press box as a healthy scratch, the Duclair rumors are once again heating up.
SOURCE: "Duclair's time in Arizona is coming to an obvious close, and he has some real fans among other NHL GMs."
Montreal and Buffalo have been tracking him since before the draft, but now I am hearing the Islanders are the team that may make a splash...The Isles are suddenly shifting more towards buyers.

I know this is well within the player's rights but it still rubs me the wrong way when a Canadian boy especially one that has represented this country internationally as much as Nash refuses to play for a Canadian franchise.

I wouldn't want to play in a Canadian market either. Desiring a level of anonymity outside of the game isn't a mark against someone's character.
