I am used to playing healing classes, it is a role I enjoy.. also my comp must be classified as "wooden" now because I lag really bad in the frontiers. Game froze for me last night after about 20 minutes at a tower battle. It was fun while it lasted though. Might need to update my memory.
I also am not sure what to do, I have done all of the hearts in my area that I can and my personal quest is too high level/difficult.
So I have nothing left for good EXP.. this game is starting to lose my interest.

What level are you?
A couple options. You can go to another starter zone and do the heart quests / skill points there. You scale down, so while you don't get as much XP as you normally would per quest, you rip through stuff because you have uber items. You can actually get your levels decently when doing this.
Your story will guide you to the next zone. If you went Human, it is Kessex hills and you can go there when you are level 15.
I was in the same boat as you, just following the hearts and doing a dynamic here and there will cause you to feel under leveled.
Also make sure you do all the dynamic events you can. You get lots of XP compared to just heart quests.

I think I should read an elementalist guide, I've just been selling every item I get, probably not the best approach.
I've got 8 skill points and haven't used one yet either. Can you suggest some good websites that have a level guide?

Honestly the best thing to do is get a salvage kit and break everything down. Everything. Only sell your junk items.
It helps raise your crafting.
I'll post a guide when I get home from work, but for now just put them wherever you want. Whatever provides the most damage (I threw a bunch in fire) at this point in time. You can worry about respecs later.
I think for ele traits it is 30 points in the bottom 2, Arcane power and Earth. Arcane power because it provides the best buffs in the game - basically there is a skill where you change attunements, it provides and AoE buff to your allies (Might, Swiftness, Regen, Protecton).

Regarding crafting, do the different levels of salvage kits net you greater quantities of materials? Or better materials?

Chance to salvage rare crafting materials. I.E. instead of just getting a piece of leather, you get leather + a gem, 10% of the tme with a tier 2 salvage kit.

Is crafting in GW2 actually worth doing?
In every game I can think of except for two, crafting has always been pretty much useless except for a few key professions that make consumable items like pots or gear augmentations. It seems that your character is always so far ahead of the level he's able to craft gear for that it's useless until you roll an alt or finally hit max level and manage to find some of the desired patterns. In the few games where you actually could make gear of your own level, it was often unnecessary since quest rewards would provide equal or better gear anyway. You would just craft the occasional more obscure item like belts or bracers that weren't as commonly found elsewhere.
The only two games I've played that really made use of crafting were UO - where your gear would constantly get stolen or would wear out and be destroyed, so you were always replacing things; and Dark Age of Camelot - where you could construct things like siege weapons for RvR.

Loving it. Can't stop playing. I'm a level 22 Necromancer now, playing on Island of Janthir. The world of Tyria looks and plays gorgeous.

Well it appears that I'm addicted to this, level 42 Mesmer on Fort Aspenwood right now having a blast in PvE, sPvP, and WvW (other than we're getting wrecked in WvW). Mesmer seems a lot more involved than other classes I tried, lots of movement/clones all the time is lots of fun.
I still can't get over the underwater areas in the game, they look absolutely fantastic in every zone.

I love the fluidity of the game play. Just running around from area to area working on the heart objectives and then an event pops up near by so you run to do that and then it turns into an escort event so you stick around for that and find yourself across the map from where you were so you just start working on the heart stuff for wherever you find yourself. All the while you've haven't had need to speak to any quest givers or turn in pick ups (unless an event requires it) or otherwise feel like you've wasted any time doing that mindless stuff.
Some buffs from the locked chests are pretty sweet too. I got one last night called Killing Spree XP or something like that. It gives 100% bonus to XP for 30 seconds, and the buff resets every time you kill something so you use it and then just start mowing down every single thing you come across. Pretty funny idea and would be great during an event.

I love this part of the game. No more of the same old go to a town, grab a bunch of quests, run out and do them, then run back to town to get rewards.

The one thing I'm not liking is that some mobs just seem way too strong. I don't think I should be getting 3 shot by mobs at level 20. Especially when they often stack two of the hits on top of each other.

I hit level 20 last night on my Elementalist and am having fun. I agree with nik, the mobs are too strong, I understand you regen to full every time you finish combat but if a mob adds it is almost certain death.
The World PvP seems like a lot of fun but my wooden PC is struggling to run it.. in small groups I am fine but once 50+ players get on my screen it starts getting laggy. In a really big event I might as well not even show up.
I think I need to re tool a few things... I just bought a new vid card last year so that can't be it, I am thinking I need an upgrade in my ram.
I always say you have to play at least 20 levels in a game on your own before you can decide if its good or not, and so far so good for Guild Wars 2.
The next step is testing out the end game PvP... got a long road of leveling ahead of me...

If you stand toe to toe with most mobs you will take a beating. Most spells are castable while moving so you should be kiting and moving most of the fight as well as using the dodge. Its not your average mmo combat.

The chef is right.
I play a ranger and normally take on mobs of 5 by running in circles using my spells. My pet dies a good minute into the fight then I say alive my running and dodging. PVP is the same way, brain power and click skills go a long way.
Additionally I'm on yaks bend if anyone wants to kill some stuffs.

Your pet lasts a minute?! .... once a mob is on my turret, it's dead in seconds, sometimes it's dead so fast I can barely get the explode turret off. I can do two mobs, but it basically involves running in a large circle hoping I don't agro something that has cripple.
I did an Asura quest last night that had some Veteran Harpy with a ranged flame attack that hit for around 900 of my 1200 life. To me, that's excessive, a mob that snares and then hits for 470 when you have ~1400 is excessive to me as well.

Nvidia card? If so, they have some new beta drivers released on the 27th for GW2 optimization.

Right off the bat i toss a healing well and then right after i toss a toughness signet so he can handle the mob for a bit. Snares are another story.

I have tried the 306.02 drivers and to be honest I went from 70-80 frames down to 45. I was not a fan in the slightest. Hopefully there is some differences in the beta vs release drivers or I will be staying on the 304.79 and the 305.53's both give me great performance in GW2.
I noticed turning off Ambient occlusion in the Nvidia settings gave me an extra 10 frames. Right now I run (on my laptop at best) everything high except shadows and reflections and see 70+ in pve and 55+ in pvp. No vertical sync on.

Additionally, I haven't explored the camera menu too much, but how have you guys addressed your camera movement? Having the mouse move your camera as opposed to allowing you to quickly turn your character 180 degrees is kinda bugging me. Is there a way to change this? I'd really like to be able to whip around and snare people and mobs.
