Default GM of the Year finalists: Armstrong (STL), Sweeney (BOS), Waddell (CAR)

Interesting Waddell made top 3.

The Nino trade was great but it seems these nominations are based more on playoff performance than anything. In addition to the Hamilton trade, they also lost Skinner for very little and he went on to have a huge year...

I believe these votes aren't taken until after round 2....hence the names you see.

Despite all the good work Treliving has done, I think the Lucic level early results of the Neal signing took him out of the running, or at least bumped him to the periphery. The magnitude of the Flames’ playoff swoon didn’t help, and probably caused some of the voters to wonder about his coaching hire, thereby finishing off the chances of a nomination for GM of the year.

I was thinking that Doug Wilson will be a finalist given the Sharks strong showing in the playoffs.

And the Karlsson and Nyquist acquisitions are much better than some transactions made by the finalists

St. Louis and Carolina I can see. Both made big deals and signings before the season started that have worked out for them.

Other than Boston trading for Coyle and Johnson at the trade deadline what did he do?

I agree with the other poster. San Jose should have been the third.

Would have thought Wilson and Treliving made the list.

What did Armstrong do other than making Berube coach?

As for Waddell? WTF!

Sweeny? I shake my head.

I see nothing special in the three GM's.

If that's their standard then Treliving should be a finalist.

after the 2nd round so they picked 3 of the 4 teams left lol

there is a reason this awards need to be voted on before the playoffs start

At least this way you can see how a GM’s deadline acquisitions look.

I see nothing wrong with 3 of the 4 Conference final team's GM's getting the votes.

Gotta remember Carolina does this as an uber budget team.

Sweeney managed to retool Boston on the fly while keeping the proven core together.

Armstrong picked up a couple key UFA's and made the O'Reilly trade. And then made the right coaching fire/move midseason

Since the end of the 17/18 season.

-signed Connor Clifton as a college UFA. Is playing top six minutes on a cup finalist
-signed Wagner, Nordstrom, Halak and Moore on July 1. Depth pieces sure, but locking up Halak was important, it allowed them to keep Rask fresh.
-Traded for Coyle and Johansson in season and didn't give up much to do so, Ryan Donato is a decent piece but Coyle is signed for next season and is only 26.

Lack of depth killed them against Tampa last year, problem was addressed with very little assets going out and the bottom six revamped and upgraded, with quality depth added at all positions. Bargain contracts to Marchand and Pastrnak made it easier. Only contract holdovers left from Chia are Bergeron, Krejci and Rask. Everyone else was signed, re-signed or drafted by Sweeney. Krejci is still the highest paid player on the team, he signed that deal in 2014.

Playoffs poisoned the well for Treliving no doubt but he built a good roster. They fell apart in the playoffs, but they had a great season. He just needs to tinker a bit, sometimes it takes a while to find the right mix.

BT is my GM of the year. Amazing what he achieved last off season.

I think Keith Gretzky was overlooked here. the work he did with the Oilers was nothing short of awesome.

If the GM of the year is voted on after round 2, then coach of the year should definitely be as well! I'm sure any coach would consider a 98-point regular season and run to the conference finals more successful than a 112-point regular season and getting bounced in round 1!

Some coaches can have great regular seasons but get fired for their playoff results!

Seriously?

· On 1 July 2018 St Louis acquired Ryan O'Reilly from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Vladimir Sobotka, Patrik Berglund, Tage Thompson, a 2019 1st round pick and a 2021 2nd round pick.
· On 1 July 2018 St Louis signed UFAs David Perron to a four-year deal and Tyler Bozek to a three-year deal.
· On 10 July 2018 St Louis signed UFA Pat Maroon to a one-year deal.

That is four out of six of the St Louis Blues's top scoring forwards in the 2019 playoffs, all acquired in a ten-day period this past summer. That looks pretty good to me.

Hard to argue with any of those three candidates, all performed some impressive moves over the past 12 months.
