First game at home in 8 days. It's a holiday day game against the Red Sox, and the Jays are "resting" Vladdy? After yet another dinger yesterday?
Is this kid made of glass or something?
I don't get it.
Unless he's got a slight tweak or something, why wouldn't they at least DH him?

It definitely is annoying because I want Vlad 24/7 but I think it's pretty typical for players to get a day off during long stretches of games. I think they're in a 16 game in a row stretch right now?

I would think they have him on a schedule, he plays a set amount of games and then has a day off.
Its just unlucky his day off occurred today.

Seeing Jansen in as DH is pretty funny though.

Yeah he is on a schedule but they should rethink the schedule if they're going to sit him on a holiday day game first day back from a long road trip.

Looks like Shi Davidi had the same beef as you Roof-Daddy.

The question, then, with the Toronto Blue Jays inviting social-media venom from parts of their fanbase by sitting out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for Monday’s Victoria Day matinee against the Boston Red Sox, is what exactly are they trying to protect the 20-year-old phenom from?
Scheduled or not, why on Earth would they rest him amid his first hot stretch since getting promoted to the big-leagues, a 7-for-21, four-homer, nine-RBI, three-walk run that earned him American League player of the week honours?

They should get him on a diet. Kid's gonna eat himself out of the league if he's not careful.

Noodles asked the most important question on Overdrive yesterday. He basically asked who is making roster decisions: the sport science department, or the coaching staff.
The sport science department is also what pissed Josh Donaldson off so fiercely last year, so somebody in management needs to look at how they are running that group. Because it could easily become detrimental to this organization's ability to attract and retain players.

Ya to be so dogmatic about scheduled days off which are likely dictated by those in the somewhat mysterious high performance division of the Blue Jays is problematic and just needlessly irritated an already annoyed group of fans.
This front office seems tone deaf to certain aspects of baseball in Canada and missed an opportunity for an easy “win”, rather they sit their 20 year old phenom with a massive(ish) crowd on hand and they’re forced into damage control. This isn’t their first day running a baseball team this shouldn’t have been an issue.

The sports science department (whoever they are) mishandled Donaldson for two full seasons. I'd be pissed too, they probably cost him a hundred million dollars.

Holy ****, one year deal at $23million. Yeah, wasn't he basically on pace for like a 5 year, $150mil deal at one point?

Cost him cash for sure, but the days of mashers with questions surrounding their health getting anything more than a couple year deal are over. Outside of the Trout’s and Harper’s of the world who are triple threats baseball has been tightened the wallet lately.

If Donaldson was healthy, he's a $100 million player even in today's market.
Guy hits for average, played great defense on the hot corner, had good speed, and could mash 30-40 taters a year.
Anyone watching Donaldson from game 1 last season could see something was wrong with him, and the Jays kept running him out there because they wanted to resurrect his trade value.
At least Josh got $23M from the Braves - I bet a lot of teams didn't offer double digits.

Well Donaldson also went to Atlanta because AA hired former Jays head trainer George Poulis and Donaldson was comfortable with him and his process which certainly isn’t a ringing endorsement for the Jays High Performance division.

Vlad with his 5th HR. I imagine in a month he will lead the Jays in every meaningful offensive category.
No doubter to straight away centre.

That was a terrible at bat by Galvis.
Bases loaded with 1 out bottom ten and he was just hacking.
Huge missed opportunity.
