Hmmm, safe to say Montreal will have a 100% shooting percentage at some point tonight........likely early on.

Not confident in Smith at all, especially at home. Flames will need to be resilient in this one.

Looking at the schedule I consider the Canadiens a team you have to get at minimum split the season series as the Flames don't do well within their own division and need to accumulate points vs the eastern conference. Can't go empty handed in the points column against teams like this and expect to challenge the Sharks.

Don't worry, it's barely a home game. We're playing Montreal.

Thanks for getting these stats together. Maybe it's similar to one of those misconceptions that all fan bases have (similar to "we always make backups look like all stars!") but I too for whatever reason felt like long breaks tend to have the Flames perform poorly in their first game back.

Yo can we agree that it’s time to retire yet another ethnic slur that gets tossed around here? It’s not as bad as some and wahn wahn PC police SJW etc etc but the NHL doesn’t let players use that term as a slur in games so I kinda feel like it shouldn’t be allowed here either.

To me this game is a must win for the Flames and Mike Smith to prove they are not mediocre as per usual

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight
  1. Johnny Gaudreau is one point from tying Craig Conroy and becoming 19th all time in points as a Flame. Conroy has 308 points for the good guys in 507 games. John Gaudreau has only played 330.
  2. Mark Giordano is one goal from tying Tim Horton and becoming 69th all time in NHL scoring as a defencemen.
  3. Michael Frolik is one assists from a career 200. Even though he has 7 goals he is yet to get an assist this season.
  4. Sam Bennett is one point from tying Jiri Hrdina and Bobby Lalonde is points as a Flame. They each share the 88 position.
  5. James Neal is one point from a career 500.
  6. Mike Smith is 16 saves from passing Jonas Hiller and becoming 15th in all time saves as a Flame.
  7. Matthew Tkachuk is one goal from passing Bennett’s total as a Flame. Right how they share the 68th of all time position with 44 goals.

Because he's a pretty good player when he's not doing something dumb. I think he's embraced the pressure of playing in a market that gives a crap about hockey and he's showing it on the ice.

Not all that optimistic about a Habs win, despite seeing Smith in goal. Their defense is putrid. After a decent start, Price is looking like he did last year. They all need to show up and skate their asses off if they want to compete tonight.

Cheers. Took a couple game off only because low scoring games makes keeping thing fresh difficult.

Shocked at this... We really haven't had very good goaltending as an organization have we?

would love to see the stats of this for all teams over past 40ish seasons.

I look forward to one day picking up my coffee and a doughnut from Mark Giordano's.

It would be nice if for once we weren't starting the game with a 1 goal handicap. Maybe we should start all games with Rittich for the first minute, then let Smith in.

First game after a road trip, several days between games, Smith starting. I have zero expectations for this one

Neal goes off tonight, setting him off for the rest of the season. Smith plays okay, Rasmus gets his first and Ryan with an empty netter.

5-3 Flames

Neal (3), Andersson, Ryan

Smith with the W, 18 saves on 21 shots, one of the goals being a softie.

In this case, isn't it more a reference that Mister Sticky is a frog?
