Haven't really read this whole thread but St. John's is rabid for the AHL, they sell out every game and totally worship their team.

You could easily set up an affiliate there. Travel intra-league is still the same (but time zones make jet leg easier) but you lose the 45 minute call-ups.

Seriously though, as much as I would LOVE for this to happen, I doubt it will for the same reasons the Jets are pulling their minor league franchise - in spite of selling out every game and strong merchandise sales, the geography is just too much to overcome for a parent club located on the west coast.

I'd prefer them to go out east... preferably in a market that will actually support the team. Glen Falls seems decent. Utica has low attendance but they do fairly well percentage wise. More practice time, less travel... just seems like an infinitely better situation for the players.

Flames managed for years and years not having an affiliate team close by... I'm sure they can survive the once every five years where they might have to play a man short or use some beer leaguer as a back-up goalie.
