Game Pass Ultimate or a supported free to play game is required for cloud gaming.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is only available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. This service costs $16.99 a month and includes online play, Xbox Game Pass console, Game Pass PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and EA Play. There is no standalone subscription for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

For this case it is an exception since it is a first party title, and you will only need a good internet connection For optimal cloud gaming, we recommend a wired (Ethernet) connection with a download speed of at least 50Mbps. A 5.0GHz, 4G LTE, or 5G wireless connection will also work, but a wired connection will ensure a stable connection.
I then asked to clarify that I was correct in assuming that for first party games you could use the cloud for both but for non-first party games you would need Ultimate. This is what they told me:

Not always, this feature has been added lately to Microsoft exclusive Games, and it will be applied to the future Games for the Xbox Game pass subscribers to benefit from their subscription to the fullest.
Please keep in mind that Xbox cloud Gaming is this in Beta, our Gaming specialist are still working on developing this Gaming feature to its full potential.

So just pay the extra 7 bucks a month to avoid instances where majority of the games on GP are not streamable.

It depends on what you want.

If you wanted to play a bunch of games but needed to use the cloud then yeah Ultimate would be more worth it to avoid not being able to. But if you only wanted to say play Starfield for a few months or however long it takes you to finish it and then unsubscribe you could just get PC Game Pass.

Using GP Ultimate will also allow XBOX One/One X owners to play it via Cloud gaming on their consoles.

Aye, I don't game on a desktop. I doubt my iMacs could even run it if I were so inclined to figure out how to run Windows.

Alas, I'll probably use Starfield as an excuse to buy an Xbox. Can't wait for reviews to roll in.

Reviews are out and generally good-ish but divisive. Not looking like the slam dunk system seller that Microsoft really needed.

https://opencritic.com/game/14907/starfield

7/10 from IGN and Gamespot. 7.5 / 10 from PC Gamer.

I know people were really excited for this game, but I can’t say that I’m surprised.

Bethesda RPG’s have consistently felt dated as soon as they are released to me. There is always a lot of fun to be had, but my expectations were never that this would be a genre defining game.

I'm not gaming very much these days, but I was looking forward to see how this game is being received.

I feel like the Bethesda magic of a couple generations ago can never be replicated again. I never played all their games, but launching and getting pulled into Skyrim for the first time was something spectacular. I actually quite enjoyed Fallout 4 last gen as well.

But after a while you probably just get desensitized to the formula. Don't know if I'll ever get around to this one.

Currently it's 87 on Metacritc and reviews are all over the place. I'm excited to give it a go!

Reviews I've read so far suggest to stick more to the main story at first, which is kind of opposite how I've played these games in the past, as that seems to be the best quality where other stuff seems to be more mixed.

Have read though that it's uncharacteristically relatively bug free, which is nice.

I have hundreds of hours in Skyrim and Fallout 4 but I've never finished their main stories. I just like to explore the worlds Bethesda creates and get in fights, so hopefully I can do the same in Starfield.

At least I got it for free so no big loss if only the main story is good.

Seems decent. I am sure there will be the usual silly internet meme jank videos the first few weeks.

Good to add to the backlog though. Hopefully something you can mod on PC?

Sounds like it’s good but it’s comforting to know it isn’t “go out and buy an Xbox” good.

Well Bethesda games aren't exactly great on quality this way, but still.

Even if it was a masterpiece I wouldn't be playing it on Xbox locked at 30fps. It's bad enough that it's 60fps on PC but at least mods should take care of that.
