Funny enough my wife mentioned she wants new pots and pans. She mentioned there is a lagostina set on sale right now at CT for $400. Regular price is supposedly $1500

I love cast iron, but there are definitely some things you just can't cook in there. For example, anything acidic will destroy the seasoning on the pan and dissolve it into the food. Some non-stick items just aren't quite possible to cook in there, week maybe if you'd just redone the seasoning?

Certain items like most meat, burgers, fried eggs, etc.. Are just way better in cast iron. So I'd definitely buy one, but you will need other pans.

What kind of range do you have? Carbon steel is what I would love to replace my pans with, but they aren’t the best on induction and electric ranges since those types subject them to warping. Cast iron is great as is stainless steel if you heat it up right.

It takes no time to season a pan. This is Big Teflon propaganda.

Seriously even if you’re lazy one day just rub some canola oil on it before putting it away and it’ll be fine. It will polymerize next time you heat it up. I cook everything on the same two pans, every day. They look practically new.

12" lodge cast iron skillet.
10" Matfer Bourgeat (or De Buyer) carbon steel skillet
7-10QT enameled cast iron dutch oven from Cost Co Kirkland
2-4QT Sauce pot preferably stainless steel. I really like my Cuisinart set made in France.

You'll be set for life with this kit.

Nothing wrong with Lagostina but I don't think that is a particularly good price and I doubt if the original price was $1500.

There are lots of good suggestions in this thread. If you want an all around set of pots and pans with sizes that should accommodate just about anything you might want to cook, this set fits the bill.

I have this set. I particularly like this style as I prefer Dutch oven style pots for draining....something women should keep in mind. I filled out the set with larger stock pots and the like that I require for pickling and canning. For those type of stock pots, I prefer the Halco/Browne name that you can get from commercial restaurant stores.

Wait until the Bay has its sales and you should be able to get it for almost half price.

We bought an Anolon set from the Bay over 10 years ago (I think) and they have been great.

Similar to this set but ours was 5 ply.

Just wait for a sale

This. Ideally you season it properly the first time, but from then on you can get away with a lot of lazy wipes/washes and just pour some more oil on

I could use a few select items, I don't want a kit. I got an OK one from President's Choice about 15 years ago, but the copper bases are warped and separating. A few are still good though, so would just like individual pieces.

Just don’t soak them or use a metal scrubber on them. Someone did that to my best one and it has never been the same.

Not sure what size etc you are looking for. Anyhow, 2 suggestions.

A food equipment company, something like Crown Food Equipment.

Or else, you can even try Home Sense. Just make sure you get ones with solid encapsulated bases.

I think I just need a small and large saucepan(large one with a steamer basket) and a ~9" pan. I've got 4 sizes of cast iron, but it's nice to have a steel one for acidic stuff.

Drawers is the correct answer. That’s where I thought the thread was going too.

If wind chimes is your kind of thing maybe a pot rack.

A pot rack... a pot rack. I don't even own *a* pot, let alone many pots that would necessitate an entire rack.

I bought a set of Lagostina Stainless at Canadian Tire at least 10 years ago. Don't remember what they cost but it was probably between $200-$300. Nice thick bottoms to hold heat, glass lids. They have been though hundreds of dishwasher cycles and besides a bit of colour fading on the handles and some minor scratches they are still like new.

As for pans, I've been using those Heritage Rock ones but even with a lot of care the surface breaks down in less than a year. I use mine in the oven so maybe that shortens their life. Next time I buy I'm going to try carbon steel.

Depending on which set of Lagostina cookware you have, it is possible to buy replacement handles and knobs for some of their cookware. I have found them on the Lagostina website.

I know for sure you can with their original Classic pots and pans.

Thanks but they don't really need it. The handles are still solid just a bit faded from the heat and abuse of the dishwasher.
