You might want to also consider surveillance cameras, I have them on my house and will be upgrading them with much better quality night cameras. I had a break in in my car (nothing taken). I caught it on my camera but the quality at 3 am with the IR cut filter on (black and white image) was not great for identification etc. So I am installing a night color camera.
I am doing this in part for home security, but also as a demo tool for clients.

I went with Reolink cameras (with the NVR) and a Nest doorbell. Reolink isn't exactly user-friendly, but the hardware is incredible.

WTF are they doing? I'm assuming garage given the location, but who knows now.

Garage with suite over top? Does the area look like it could be zoned for something like that?

It could be zoned for that, but why fill it in after? Why excavate at all? Do you need those foundations for a garage with a suite?

Huh. Weird. I'm pretty sure the one built near me did not excavate for their suite over the garage, it was built about 5 years ago.

The soil report and the engineer will decide. Sometimes I think they get away with only 4' footing.

I do! Just show up at my place with a vehicle and a shovel, load up, then bring it to Cranston, and voila! Delivered!

Um, yeah you do. You're certainly not building it slab on grade or merely thickened edge. Call the City, they'll tell you.

He showed up on time on monday, very well spoken, and explained part and step in detail. I haven't had a chance to go over the information nor compare quotes yet as I didn't have plans to do this this year, but I would recommend this for the quote part for sure. No clue about their work but it's got good reviews on google.
FWIW the quote came in around $7k for a starter size 2 storey front attached house. Work will be 1 full day in and out as they have a 5 man crew.
Apparently they have a referral program too? But not sure how that works considering I haven't actually done anything yet lol.

I'll call em in for a quote. Thanks for letting me know

I don't need to call the city.
No one said slab on grade or thickened edge. We're talking the necessity to go a full 8'.
You don't need to go down 8' for a laneway suite over garage. 4' yes. 8' no.

LOL what? Are you confused? Or just angry.
Fuzz asked if 8' foundations and piles under slab were required.
You answered 'yes'. Then I answered 'no'. Then you answered again saying no they're not required.
Then you responded to my correct answer of no, with thickened edge and slab on grade wouldn't cut it. Call the city.
You already brought up the 4' possibility. So an expert on the matter shouldn't assume 'no' to 8' immediately means yes to slab on grade. So you're angry at yourself?

And I read it as whether a foundation was necessary. When he made his next post noting that the guy down the street didn't do it, I clarified that sometimes it's only a 4'. So what the hell are you bothering contradicting the yes post for after it was clarified two posts later?
Jesus f-ing christ, it's people like you that make posting on the internet so intolerable sometimes. You posting 'no' after I said that a foundation is necessary makes it sound like no foundation is necessary.
Man alive. A fricken pissing match over wording that was already clarified. Does your life lack meaning or something? Go play in traffic.

I responded to a post before reading to the end of the tread.
Big deal.
Any level headed person would have deduced that I didn't read the next post yet before quoting the first. That happens every few seconds here.
Next time when you post, please add "Don't respond to this post until you've read my next post further down where I clarify something".
