They still had Gryba? That can't be good.

Doesn't he only make $900k....why wouldn't they just sit him in the minors for a year - that would only count to like $100k of the cap if hes in the minors and would be added depth.

He was making $900k for one more year. Did they need to save $600k this year that badly? Or did they need to make room for more contracts?

It sure seems like such a pointless buyout.

I didnt know he was even still playing and isnt this a terribly stupid move? You've already parked him in the minors, just keep him there.

He wouldn't count towards the salary cap at all if he is in the minors. Move only makes sense if they need the cap space before they are able to assign Gryba to the AHL.

edit: I suppose roster space could be also another reason

The judges would have also accepted garbage scow.

Buying out a guy making 900k for one more year really emphasizes how desperate that team is.

He was already playing in Bakersfield, they're just buying out his last year. Are they at the cap for contracts or something?

More like he had a "must move" clause in his contract. This guarantess that he'll find a place to play.

Perhaps Gryba is paying them $300k under the table so he can get out of the organization.
