Default Lebrun: CGY & CAR talked about Lindholm trade that could involve Hamilton and Hanifin

https://www.tsn.ca/video/karlsson-li...ing-up~1422247

Says the talks between Lindholm and Carolina haven't been going well and if a deal isn't done they may look to move him.

Could be part of a bigger deal. Heard Hamilton's name and wonders if Calgary is interested in Hanifin.

Said those discussions happened a couple of weeks ago and is not sure if it still on the front burner but that could change quickly as Canes are meeting with Lindholm's agent over the next couple of days

News Update

LeBrun expands on this in his latest blog:

https://theathletic.com/402450/2018/...rade-karlsson/

Quote:
–Elias Lindholm is a player to monitor. The Hurricanes, in a perfect world, would simply like to re-sign the RFA forward but talks haven’t progressed to this point although the player’s agent, Peter Wallen, and GM Don Waddell were slated to chat on Friday. We’ll see where that goes. In the meantime, while it’s way more likely that Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk get traded out of Carolina, Lindholm is the player that’s garnered by far the most interest from other teams. And why not, he’s 23 years old, can play centre and right wing, and the best is yet to come from a young player who had 16 goals and 44 points this past season. Among the many teams that have reached out over the past few weeks is the Calgary Flames, who are searching for a top-six upgrade. I believe those conversations got large enough where the names of Noah Hanifin from the Hurricanes and Dougie Hamilton from the Flames were also involved at one point, but those talks fizzled, as far as I can tell. I guess you never know if both teams re-engage over the next few weeks or not. Again, at the end of the day, the priority for Carolina is to re-sign Lindholm and keep him if they can.

This is also coming from Lebrun, who has telegraphed some of Treliving moves lately. (Hamonic, Smith, Brouwer IIRC).

Hamilton for Lindholm and Hanifin. This could allow the Flames to still consider trading Brodie as well.

One day, the entire Flames roster will just be the first round of the 2013 Draft.

If there's any way to get Lindholm without trading Hamilton, I think you do it. The Canes are actually fairly well stocked as far as good young defensemen go, especially if they don't move Hanifin.

I am not in favor of trading Hamilton, but if you get Hanifin and Lindholm for him, make that deal.

If they could package Brodie with Bennett or Ferland for Gallagher and a 2nd that would be pretty awesome.

Genuinely asking because I don't know much about Lindholm, but he seems to be a 0.5 ppg centre, including seasons where he had some pretty good linemates (aho, j Staal, teuvo, skinner), nearly all of which happened under our new coach; does he have a much higher upside or is he due a breakout?

Again, not trying to be pessimistic, I just don't know much about him and haven't really watched him play.

I'd rather do a Brodie for Lindholm type of trade than go for Hanifin too at the cost of Dougie.

But if we are going to move Hamilton (for whatever reason), this is a return I'd be ok with. I'm just not sure it makes sense to move Dougie given he's already elite at what he does, is locked up, and is young.

We will have good intel on the players, due to Bill Peters having been their coach in Carolina.
