Yeah I've used both selectblindscanada and blinds.ca with decent success, I've never gotten anything from them I'd consider garbage anyway, and blinds.ca does deal with some of the more known brands if one wants to stick with those.

I recently got my blinds through Costco via their third party (Bali). They had a 30-40% off deal and the price was reasonable. I installed them myself. They are more than good enough for what I need them for at the moment.


I think overall, blinds are pretty similar. But I went through Blinds for less for my other property years ago and the ones that I got through there did kinda look nicer than the average set of cellular blinds. The color, look, sheen and operations does seem slightly nicer than the Bali blinds. I seem to recall the prices/quote was reasonable, but not the cheapest, but I also had them install the blinds vs doing it myself. I'm not sure which manufacturer they go through, but maybe you could even consider going straight to manufacturer.

Depending on the number of windows & sizes you need this may be a non-starter, but I’ve been quite happy with the Hoppvals Cellurar blinds from IKEA

The lack of external dangling strings, and the fact they go up/down with just a simple push or pull keeps them pretty minimal, and I like amount of sun the lighter shades let through on my south facing office window.

Look at building a deck. It appears from the city website if the deck is not over 600mm at any point it does not require a permit and falls under patios.

But the city doesn’t seem to have any more info on patios then saying typically they don’t require a permit. I’m essentially following all the deck rules from the ABC anyways but want to be sure I don’t miss any set back requirements for patios.

Does anyone know if the 4 foot rule for deck set back from property lines applies to a patio or does it fall under general structures?

It seems very well defined for Decks but not once you are below 2ft.

The Blind Doctor, great service from them and when the receptionist gave me the wrong date for pickup (I had blinds in for repair) the owner gave me a sizeable discount. Thrilled with how they rectified a small mistake.

Tonight I learnt that my ‘completed’ washroom renovation has sprung a serious leak when using the shower somewhere in the wall between the new tiles and kitchen backsplash/cabinets.

That’s really going to make the pregnant lady, whose already exercised more patience than I have total, real happy.

We’ve just moved into a new house and want to paint the place, but it seems the previous owners have glued mirrors to the wall with PL glue.

Any ideas how to take a mirror like this off the wall without wrecking the drywall or smashing the mirror to pieces?

(And for clarity, this is my daughters room. Not my unicorn light.)

If you can get a thin wire behind from the top, try sawing down with it between the wall and mirror. You are probably still doing a lot of drywall repair, as that glue is going to take off a layer.

Are you sure they are glued on? I think I spot two little mounting clips at the bottom of the mirror. You might be able to just slide em right out?

They are for sure glued on. it looks like those clips were used to keep it in place while the glue was drying.

Are you sure it’s glued? Perhaps it’s just on clips (I can see them at the bottom)?
