Nice article arguing that aerosols are the main reason for covid transmission.

Quote:
But if an infectious virus is mainly airborne, an individual could potentially be infected when they inhale aerosols produced when an infected person exhales, speaks, shouts, sings, sneezes, or coughs. Reducing airborne transmission of virus requires measures to avoid inhalation of infectious aerosols, including ventilation, air filtration, reducing crowding and time spent indoors, use of masks whenever indoors, attention to mask quality and fit, and higher-grade protection for health-care staff and front-line workers.
Quote:
Third, asymptomatic or presymptomatic transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from people who are not coughing or sneezing is likely to account for at least a third, and perhaps up to 59%, of all transmission globally and is a key way SARS-CoV-2 has spread around the world,8 supportive of a predominantly airborne mode of transmission. Direct measurements show that speaking produces thousands of aerosol particles and few large droplets, which supports the airborne route.

Fourth, transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is higher indoors than outdoors10 and is substantially reduced by indoor ventilation.5 Both observations support a predominantly airborne route of transmission.

Ontario is saying it is a supply issue. Was Ford under the impression that AB and SK health workers would bring vaccine doses with them if they came to help out?

You guys don’t have them vaccine vampires out west? They are exclusively hired to work in healthcare here.

$17M class-action lawsuit filed against Calgary restaurant over COVID-19 outbreak

Joey Eau Claire staff didn’t follow proper Alberta Health Services protocols leading to a COVID-19 outbreak at the restaurant, a $17-million class-action lawsuit claims.

The court action, filed by Calgary firm Guardian Law Group against Joey Tomato’s (Canada) Inc., alleges patrons became sick because employees failed to adequately ensure safety steps were followed to protect customers.

Good news for associations/groups running these programs who have done a good job with safety protocols. Good for kids as well.

Super strict measures coming out of Ontario, provincial border checkpoints, golf and all other recreational retail closed, non-essential construction closed. Hopefully they get a handle on this.

Ontario is releasing a lot more restrictions for another 2 weeks with their stay at home order. New restrictions include closing the land border with Manitoba and Quebec although air travel seems to be acceptable. Golf courses, playgrounds, non essential construction projects and other things are being shutdown. Police are apparently being given more authority to oversee the stay at home orders. Seems really grim out there.

Additional measures for Calgary youth in grades 7 to 12
Extra-curricular indoor sport and recreation activities are not permitted for grade 7 to 12 youth in the Municipality of Calgary, effective April 19. This includes homeschooled students.
These activities will be permitted again when in-person learning resumes.
Outdoor sport and recreation activities and 1-on-1 indoor fitness with a trainer or coach are still permitted.
Indoor activites may be moved outdoors, provided all safety requirements for outdoor physical activities are followed.

Good news frustrating news.

It sounds like Doug is going to step up enforcement, giving police powers to pull people over and determine their purpose for leaving their house. This isn't the first time they threatened police involvement, but this sounds more serious and clearer than before.

Doug made his statement political again, not taking personal responsibility but blaming the Feds for the Moderna delay (while not mentioning JJ or the increased Pfizer supply). Pointed to the UK being able to vaccinate people 30+ with AZ (isn't that his call?).

They are shutting down non essential construction, and closing down the provincial borders. They are still allowing indoor religious services.

This was better than I was expecting, and I hope this will be enough to slow it down.

For clarification, golf courses and playgrounds are adding restrictions. They have not been closed.

Non-essential construction is halted, finally.

Can’t visit with friends outdoors, but churches are still cool. Because why the #### not.

Yep. Ford hit all the "blame Trudeau" buttons. "The variants got into the country somehow", "I've said all along the issue is supply of vaccines", "the other premiers have been wonderful, but the feds have not stepped up".

This isn't a public health press conference. It's a political press conference. I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed.

I'd be supportive of this if the law group said that they're doing this pro bono.

to me it reeks of the law group looking to make a quick buck with an out of court settlement. they'll probably get half of the money?

OK, but which level of government does that particular point fall to? It's more than a little concerning that the variants were known and that travelers brought them in despite the efforts at the border. I don't know what the provinces could do about them, so it falls to the feds pretty quickly.

Law groups making money = corporations improving regulations.

Just let them duke it out.

Maybe he misspoke, it wouldn’t be the first time.

But this is paragraph 2 on the current CBC article:
“ Speaking at a news conference that was twice delayed-on Friday, Premier Doug Ford also announced that non-essential construction will be shut down and outdoor amenities like golf and playgrounds will be restricted.”
