Its kind of .... pathetic that my mind instantly goes to - thank goodness the wind goes from West to east!

I know I know, Canada will still be impacted negatively in other ways, and this is pretty heartless for the people who would be greatly impacted.

But in my defense, I think it is human nature to sometimes first assess the impact on one owns situation before thinking of others. So I don't quite think I am a monster for thinking this!

Great little map of the area, the open vents are now 8, and the flow is pretty substantial. This map shows all the neat info on the eruption, especially nice to zoom out and see where exactly this is all hapening.

Well as the experts said last year, this whole area is now going to be active for 100's of years to come, we had a new eruption near the old one, so if anyone is coming to Iceland this year, you might get lucky. The hike is however not easy, if you plan on visiting check out safetravel.is for details on how to get there, how to prepare.

I booked a taxi for the day so my son and I could hike to the eruption site last July (2021). It was one of the most spectacular hikes of my life. To have shared it with my son was so special.

We wouldn’t shut up about our visit to Iceland, so my wife finally relented and we went again in December. By that time, the eruption had paused/stopped, but it didn’t matter, my wife was thanking me on one of our Golden Circle trips for arranging everything.

Iceland is truly magical - a place I want to go back to again and again.
