Clinical performance from Raonic. After starting slowly, his serve was on the remainder of the match. Really beat up the second serve of Struff on the return as well. Big man is looking solid.

A third and deciding set is required as Denis takes set 2 by a 6-2 score.

Denis has been really going for it this match and serving quite well again today.
How awesome would it be for Canadian tennis to have 2 Men in the QF and 1 woman in the SF of the 5th biggest event of the year!

Just read that Felix will have to go through qualifying for the Miami Open (i.e. no wild card main draw entry for FAA).

Wow. That is laughable. You know the system needs an overhaul when one of the hottest players on tour for the last 4-5 weeks, who is now in the top 60, has to go through qualifying at an event of Miami's size.

Because the ATP probably does not want to give wildcards to the same players twice. Djere is not getting one either.
Instead Kecmanovic who just made the quarters and old man Ferrer get them.
Even Andreescu barely made it in at 70, Bouchard will have to qualify.

The wildcard is understandable, those are going to go to Americans and other up and comers for the most part.
The fact the event has taken its rankings from so long ago they aren't even valid is just silly. Felix has been inside the top 100 for 3 weeks now and still has to qualify at one of the premiere 1000 level events on the calendar. I can imagine it would be equally frustrating for players who are narrowly missing out on being seeded at this event to players that are now well below them in the rankings as well.

Denis down a break in set 3 with Hurkacz serving at 4-3 - Come on Shapo!
Edit: Hurkacz wins the match taking set 3 6-3 - Bummer.

Seeding is different, the ATP takes seeds on the day of the draw. It's commitments that's 3 or 4 weeks behind.
I think that's fair due to travel, you don't want to be committed to a tournament and then get bumped last minute and have to fly to another tournament. Plus how can you get bumped into qualifying that happened 3 days ago?
It also gives tournament organizers and sponsors certainty.
for example Felix has used his new ranking to commit to Marrakech 250 April 8-14 and Barcelona 500 April 22-28. He cannot be bumped.

Khachanov ousts Isner in straight sets which sets up a tasty match with Rafa.

Every time it seems like Denis is ready to take a big step forward, he trips. So frustrating.

Overnight, Brayden Schnur and Rebecca Marino won their respective matches in China and Japan. Keep it going Brayden and Rebecca.

Fair enough - I just don't see the positive to be cutting players in or out of events that they rightfully should be main draw participants in because of some antiquated system a few of these tournaments still run.
Every event should pull rankings from a set time-frame so it is even across the calendar and in our current world of instant information, there is no reason to be pulling rankings 3 or more weeks before announcing a draw.

The Bencic - Pliskova match is currently in the third set on Stadium 1 court, thus there will be a slight delay until Milos and Kecmanovic get going.
