3rd-rder Adam Kloffenstein signs w/@BlueJays for $2.45 million (pick 88 value = $652,900). Nice size and array of pitches, including heavy low-90s sinker, four-seamer to 96, sharp slider. Texas Christian recruit. @MLBDraft

Yes. Assuming they sign all their top 10 round picks the 5% taxable overage lowers that to 601K... and I have no idea where they're getting it. I guess some of the other picks are willing to take a bigger shave on slot value then I thought they would.

Jays sign 26 draft picks, including top selections Groshans, Kloffenstein

Quote:
The Blue Jays signed nine of their top 10 picks with the exception of second-round selection Griffin Conine, an outfielder out of Duke.
Here is the 26 signed guys:

Duke was just eliminated in their playoffs, sounds like they expect to get 2nd rounder Conine signed soon as well.

Rowdy Tellez' June slash line -> .308 .413 .538 .952

Would be nice to see guys like him and Alford continue to play well for the next month, maybe the Jays FO will go into full tear down and deal guys like Pillar and Smoak and call these guys up to full time MLB duty for the remainder of the season.

Probably not going to get much for Pillar/Smoak, but more mud is more mud.

So, let' continue to focus on the future Jays, shall we?

TORONTO BLUE JAYS TOP 10 POSITION PROSPECTS

Quote:
7. Kevin Smith, SS

Warmoth’s replacement was leading the Midwest League in a number of offensive categories before he got the call to Dunedin. After a slow start with the D-Jays, he’s had 1six straigth multi-hit games, and is playing peerless defence.

A 4th round pick last year, there were concerns about Smith’s bat. So far this year, he’s gone a long way to start to erase them. Smith has a good approach at the plate, and barreled up a lot of balls enroute to a .355/.407/.639 line with Lansing.

Smith is a student of the game, and a very hard worker. His defence has always been his calling card, but now it appears that his bat is catching up. With a glut of SS at the lower levels, Smith split time at SS/3B at Lansing, but depending on the length of Warmoth’s absence, he has some time to settle in for a long stretch at Short.

Blue Jays Farm Report: Bichette goes back to raking

Quote:
That led to an extended slump – he batted .209/.285/.341 with 13 walks and 29 strikeouts in 144 plate appearances over 32 games from April 18 to May 23 – and some soul searching.

Why the change?

“The fact that I’m in double-A now, it’s kind of realistic that I could go to the big-leagues at some point, I think I started trying to force my way instead of being who I am,” Bichette says in a recent interview. “A lot of things to learn from.”

A strong recovery in the 21 games since – .372/.416/.628 with eight walks against eight strikeouts – is a strong indication that Bichette has taken those lessons to heart.
Sounds like his defense has really improved as well. Hopefully our shortstop of the future.

Should be interesting getting to see Harper this weekend. Surprised to see hes batting a .224 albeit still racking up the HRs and RBIs.

Also looking like no Donaldson again rumblings he would be in for this game but don't see him on the roster.

They called JD back from Dunedin. He was supposed to do a couple rehab games, but they changed their minds. Man I hope that guy can get healthy, produce and get us SOMETHING at the deadline.

A couple HRs that inning to give the Jays the lead and at least make the game exciting.

One thing i do like about baseball is going full Oiler doesn't generally help you(though i guess it doesn't really help the Oilers either). As much as i know they're not going anywhere i still like seeing wins.

I believe players do, too. I can feel how bad they want it. The energy from the dugout is really good.

Griffin Conine is close to signing with #BlueJays, but they’re still working through details. He’s ready to get to work, though: “I’m planning on proving that I was the best 52nd-overall pick in the history of the draft. That’s my plan.”
