whatever you think of Newsoms politics, he's outstanding in debates and discussions. He completely steamrolled Hannity on his own show the other day.
I find him kind of like Trudeau. Very saavy and the master of deflection. Like his answer on homelessness. He's not happy about it but he blames the previous 40 years, not his failed policy, or lack of, rejecting most city plans, of the last 10 years. He can only reset the policy so many times kicking the can down the road.
That’s a doozy of an article there girly. Did you read it and process it? Homelessness is a really interesting issue because of the complexity of it. It’s not just a state or local issue, it’s a societal issue. You have a number of problems affecting people (socio-economic, mental health, employment, affordable housing, violence, free choice, etc) that feed this problem. Each require different solutions so there is no silver bullet. What makes this problem much worse for some states/cities than others is these transient populations will go where the weather gives them the best chance to survive on their own.
Anywhere where you have good weather you are going to have a homelessness problem. We see it in all southern cities down here. Phoenix and Vegas face similar problems and it is extremely difficult to deal with. Newsom and anyone else trying to combat the issue in California is in limbo as the courts are involved in making decisions at this point. What else would you expect someone to do if the courts are holding up possible solutions?
The article is extremely disingenuous in what it is saying, but that is no surprise considering it’s an option piece by Hugh Hewitt. The hard fast reliance on statistics with no real comparison to other regions provides no real informational value. It doesn’t speak to the growing problem and the complexity of possible solutions. The real tragedy here is this complex problem is never discussed by trolls like Hewitt, it is only used to hit people over the head with and try to make them look weak. The issue of homelessness is not one that can land at the feet of any one individual because there are always going to be people who are homeless because a population of those people do so through free choice. Homelessness is a problem that will never go away (largely because of free choice) and those who think it will just don’t care to understand the larger problem.

I’m reading that since Trump’s arraignment he’s raised over $7 million from his idiot supporters. I don’t know if he wants to be president as much as he’s trying to stay out of prison and keep the lucrative grift going. How stupid do people have to be? That’s a retorical question.

So much foreign money, I’m sure. He never wanted to be president. The whole thing is a grift. His life is a grift.

These transgender individuals, frequently accompanied by their families, often sacrifice their jobs and relinquish their stability to reach the sanctuary of states willing to facilitate their care and protect them under the law. Should this trend persist, we may witness the largest domestic migration crisis since the Dust Bowl upheaval of the 1940s.
The numbers are stark. The poll from Data For Progress shows that 8% of all transgender people have already moved out of their community or state as a result of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. An additional 43% of transgender people are likewise considering moving. Transgender people are#between 0.5-1%#of the population of the United States, meaning that 130-260,000 transgender people have already fled their home states.
You know, I remember some 15 years ago when Russian LGBTQ people started to move out of Russia out of fear of persecution and state action.
Where does the stat come from that trans people are .5 to 1% of the population? That seems kind of high.

The most common study cited is from UCLA's Law School
Among U.S. adults, 0.5% (about 1.3 million adults) identify as transgender. Among youth ages 13 to 17 in the U.S., 1.4% (about 300,000 youth) identify as transgender. Based on 2017 population

Fox News producer out after onscreen message calling President Biden a 'wannabe dictator'
Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — A longtime producer for Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News after he was deemed responsible for the on-air headline that referred to President Joe Biden as a “wannabe dictator" because of the indictment of former President Donald Trump.
The producer, Alex McCaskill, confirmed his exit in an Instagram post. Fox News did not comment on Friday.
Quote:
He had remained at Fox after Carlson, the network's most popular personality, was fired on April 24. The reason for Carlson's sudden ouster, less than a week after Fox agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787 million to end a defamation case, has never been publicly explained.
It was during the last minutes of Carlson's former time slot on Tuesday when the message appeared under separate onscreen boxes that showed Biden and Trump talking. It read: “Wannabe dictator speaks at the White House after having his political rival arrested.”
Carlson, in a Twitter monologue posted Thursday, said “the women who run the network panicked” about the post and scolded the person responsible. Carlson didn't name the producer, but said he was “considered one of the most capable persons in the building.”
The producer offered to resign with two weeks' notice, but was told to clean out his desk and leave immediately, he said.
Fox, in a statement on Wednesday, said the chyron had been taken down and the issue “addressed,” without further explanation.

Anne Fausto-Stirling estimated that people with intersex traits make up about 1.7% of the population, which is about as common - globally - as people with red hair. https://www.annefaustosterling.com/f...nquiry/gender/
However, there is substantial criticism of her numbers and her definition of “intersex traits” and other estimates place the percentage of 0.018%. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12476264/
Hunter Biden pleads guilty to two misdemeanor federal tax charges and a felony charge of lying about drug use on a gun permit application. Trump of course complains loudly.. anything short of a death sentence for Hunter would have had Trump and his followers complaining that it's not harsh enough.
Trump's trial date set for August 14, but probably going to get pushed back with all the pre-trial stuff.
George Santos lost his appeal to keep the people who posted $500k bond for him secret, he said he'd rather go to jail than reveal the names. He's got until noon Thursday to either get new people to pay his bond that are willing to be made public or turn himself in otherwise the names will be revealed.
Finally looks like ProPublica is doing another SCOTUS story as Alito felt the need to get in front of it with an op-ed in the WSJ after ProPublica asked him for comment: https://www.wsj.com/articles/propubl...inger-23b51eda

I honestly didn't watch it all because the first minute or so had nothing to do with censorship and I couldn't take anymore.

just to use this to summarize the GOPs latest hits in the House:
- censuring Adam Schiff for ... well, doing his job, I guess?
- trying to expunge Donald Trumps impeachment vote, because loyalty to the orange overlord is all that matters
- wanting to impeach Joe Biden, because ... well, there's no reason of course, but who cares
- Lauren Boebert and Majorie Taylor Greene acting like catty teenagers, calling each other "little bitches" on the House floor
remember when we were told in this very thread how it was time the grown-ups got control of the House? Those clowns are going full "Idiocracy".
