I would say people choose their consol for three reasons:
- games they want to play
- what their friends have to they can play online together
- brand loyalty

I don't think anyone chooses a consol based on specs, on which one has more power. They may use specs to justify their purchase, but I doubt it is the driving reason.

#1 reason for me.

I plan on eventually getting a Series X too but only when/if a bunch of exclusives that you can't play on PC come out. I can count on one hand how many Xbox One games I've bought so I won't be making that same mistake again. With PS5 I'm pretty confident I won't run into that problem.

That is one of the biggest reasons for which consoles I own as well and I know my friends will be on Xbox. The nice thing about xbox is, some of my friends can't justify buying the new consoles this year due to the pandemic and knowing that they will be supported for the next year or two is nice.

There will be no Xbox exclusives that aren't on PC. Microsoft is releasing all of their first party stuff on Windows 10, and if you subscribe to GamePass you get access to all of them on day 1. I really applaud Microsoft for moving to an open platform method, if you already have a gaming PC and buy a PS5 then you miss out on nothing

512 GB? So you can have like 3 games on there before needing to delete something...

I'm just happy to see they finally figured out how to get rid of the analoug parts of consoles. No more VU meters bouncing around.

This console is obviously not for the game hoarder/hardcore gamer, With both PS5 consoles offering 825gb SSD's its a competitive SSD size at a much lower price. It allows people to play next gen games with next gen performance at last gen prices. With how Xbox All Access works in the states it is a very very good option for lower income families.

Edit: Also there has been some feedback from developers/MS in regards to the Xbox Velocity Architecture and how it can reduce the size of games, https://www.ign.com/articles/xbox-se...mes-file-sizes

I'm exiting the console wars this gen.

I concede the PS5 looks cool, but I really only use my PS4 for streaming content and the odd hard disc Bluray like twice a year. I'll continue to use that until it craps out.

My PC is getting old, so it's time for an upgrade anyway. I'll skip this gen of consoles and look down my nose at you people with my fellow Master Racers.

Enjoy Gamepass on the new PC , Also with the new RTX 30 series prices it's not a bad time to be building a decent Rig.

S is no better than the Xbox One X

Series X is the actual next gen console from Microsoft

If only they followed an incremental naming scheme so people could understand it. Perhaps one not full of X's, One's and S's.

Except for the fact that the Series S has VRR, RTX Ray Tracing, the new NVME SSD with the Xbox Velocity Architecture.

Like I said before its an entry level console for less serious gamers. Not to mention the console looks like it will be used as a streaming device for project xCloud. Seems like a great option for people that want to experience some of the next gen features unavailable on the One X without having to fork out the big bucks for the Series X.

If you provided this list in alphabetical order:

Xbox
Xbox One
Xbox One S
Xbox One X
Xbox Series S
Xbox Series X
Xbox 360

to someone with no prior knowledge of the Xbox brand, I wonder how many could correctly guess the order of them being announced and the most basic differences between them.

Compared to this list:

Playstation
Playstation One
Playstation 2
Playstation 2 Slimline
Playstation 3
Playstation 3 Slim
Playstation 3 Super Slim
Playstation 4
Playstation 4 Pro
Playstation 4 Slim
Playstation 5

Microsoft is basically in a hellhole between the consistent naming structure of Sony, and the completely random naming structure of Nintendo.

On this note I'm excited for the inevitably forthcoming Playstation 5 Pro, Slim, and Pro Slim.

I’ve been humming an hawing over which of the Thread Title consoles to get for a long time...

I’m going Switch. I love Zelda games, and Mario games, and that’s pretty much all I need.

So I have a question, what do I need to watch for when buying a used one? I have read about the thumbstick drift. Anything else common noticed by switch users?

Obviously the screen condition. I'd look at the fan exhaust and see if it is full of lint and dust, like the person didn't care about it.

Yep, I'm going balls to the wall with a build so it lasts me a long time. Ryzen 9 + RTX 3080.

Might even get a CPU cooler with the little animated screen on it. Have it display the Flames scores as I'm gaming

I wish the Series X was white. I prefer white over black for consoles.

The series S is still a next gen console. It'll run the exact same games as the series X, just won't run them in 4k. It has the same CPU, ray tracing, SSD, just has a weaker GPU. Seems like good value if you're ok with 1080p.
