I have 53 best friends now, each one of those is 160,000xp, (10k, 50k, 100k).

That’s 8.5 million xp, just from friendships. Nearly half enough points to get to level 40.

And that’s assuming no lucky eggs were used when those friendship xp were given, and I’m sure I’ve gotten a couple million in extra xp just from that.

I have about 50 million xp total in playing regularly since day one.

Friendship xp is probably more than 20% of that.

But there are so many other ways also to get xp that weren’t available at the start.

Whats the best way to get xp? I'm at 38 and about 3/4 to 39. How can I do it faster?

Honestly I would add a bunch of friends get their first gift get the 3k per then keep them until they turned great friends pop a lucky egg open all those gifts at 20k a gift if u open 20 great friend gifts with a lucky egg that's 400k pokemon go friend codes is a good site to just sit there and scan QR friend codes

Well I have 131.5M XP so can speak to that a little bit.

Friend XP is obviously the easiest in the game. You want to save up a bunch of ultra or best friend interactions and do them all at the same time on a lucky egg - usually at the beginning of a community day. Bonus if the Community Day is also featuring 3x xp for catches.

Ultra friends on a lucky egg are 100k while best friends are 200k.

If you manage to line up even, say, 15 best friends on a lucky egg that’s 3M xp which is the jump from level 38 to 39. The most I’ve ever done on one lucky egg is 4.3 million.

Another way to get it up there fast is to play efficiently during 3x xp spotlight hours - pop a lucky egg right at the beginning and catch everything in sight. If you’ve got large candy hoards for some things, evolve them all near the end of the hour while still on a lucky egg and then transfer them.

Wednesday 6:00 raid hours are good too. If you go hard you can get 10 raids in during the hour and on a lucky egg that’s 200,000 xp. Mix a couple friend interactions in there and you’re golden.

For those who are level 40, what keeps you playing?
I haven't really looked into it, but are there new features/incentives when you get to that level?

I hope they don't pull a World of Warcraft and increase the level cap once I finally get there.

Oh they've already talked about increasing the level cap. But they've also said the higher levels won't be xp based. I will not like having to get more candies/stardust for maxing my master league Pokemon.

As for why keep playing... Pokedex, Battle League, collecting. The same things you do pre-40, I assume.

Some say that the game only really starts when you hit 40. I wouldn't, but it is the point where you're not handicapped in Master League (and even Great and Ultra for certain pokemon).

I enjoy the PvP part of the game and challenging myself to improve in that area - I’ve been as high as 160 on the world leaderboard, and hit rank 10 every season so far.

I also like to collect shiny stuff.

I basically never play the PVP, unless there is a task that requires me to do so.

However, I still keep Pokémon that have high ranked PVP IV combos, for some reason.

I spent a while on that one. You can google what dittos appear as.

Right now catch all the gulpin and spinoraks you see. I think that's your best bet. Other than that, dumb luck. My son and I were on that for a while.

Friendship doesn’t reset immediately. I think it’s 90 days?
