Vasek played quite well today, but Monfils was just a little bit better as he takes out Pops in straight sets 7-5 6-4. Good week for Vasek though as he raises his live ATP ranking to #73

Tough 1st round match for Shapo as he faces Marin Cilic in Basel at the Swiss Indoors tourney. Vasek is attempting to qualify for this same tourney.

Felix has been granted a wild card to the ATP tourney in Vienna and will face Marton Fucsovics in the 1st round. Milos is also in Vienna and will take on Jurgen Melzer.

Watched Ivo Karlovic win the Calgary Challenger yesterday. God damn is he a big dude.
Thought they did a good job with the tournament overall. The lead organizer said at the end that they drew over 6000 fans for the week, and were pretty excited about that. So I would imagine that's pretty good for a challenger event.

Tough one for Felix today in Vienna as he loses in three sets to Marton Fucsovics - Felix won the first set 6-1, but then lost the last two sets 6-0 7-5.

Shapo's struggles continue as Marin Cilic dusts him in straight sets 6-4 6-2. It has not been a good month of tennis for Denis.

Not a good Monday for Canadian men's tennis as Felix, Denis, and Milos all lose their respective matches today (Milos lost to Jurgen Melzer in straight sets 7-6 7-5). The end of the season is near which is probably just what the doctor ordered.

That was an amateurish performance by Raonic. Just terrible, even if he was dealing with a banged up knee. Milos with some hilariously bad unforced errors. Good result for old man Melzer and the locals though.

I have it on good authority that the event is moving up to a $150k (from $75K) event for next year, so it should draw a much better field on top of that and the fact it has a year under it's belt to work out all the kinks.
I agree it was a pretty good production for a first year event, but they do need to sort out some silly misses like only having one small scoreboard, no serve speed clock and a completely indiscernible audio/PA system.
Nonetheless, super exciting to have finally been able to see some all world level tennis in our city beyond the odd exhibition or davis cup match.

This is bizarro world, I'm watching the Gilles Simon - Ernsts Gulbis match from Basel (Swiss Indoors) on TSN3 and they're wearing the same kit and I never realized that they are quite similar in appearance (hair colour the same and both have beards). It's freaky.
/Carry on with the rest of your day.

Geez, that beatdown by Kei was almost as bad as the one the Pens handed to the Flames last night. Nishikori takes the match in straight sets 6-3 6-1

Hopefully, the Anderson - Coric match coming up will be a little better quality that the preceding match.
