Default Sore throat season

Anybody else out there fighting a sore throat? Every year this thing comes around but always leaves you guessing which month it’s going to make an appearance.

Ever since i moved to Calgary i noticed sore throat season happens sometime between September and April. It’s not the flu, just a sore throat and stuffiness.

Thought maybe it was just me for the last two weeks till you hear the guy in the elevator with a coarse voice, see people taking more sick days at work, then the halls display setup at the checkout at superstore.

Anyone else get this nasty thing? How do you fight it other than rest and vitamin C like you always hear?

Found that certain teas really work for me. David’a Tea sells a herbal tea called cold-911, which seems to really help. Chai tea (full strength ones, home made or from places like Tea Hippie or Silk Road Spice Merchant) or black tea with a little bit of ground ginger also helps.

I find gargling with salt water helps to ease the discomfort and swelling.

Not really a sore throat but I had a cough/chest cold that lasted about two weeks. The airconditioning triggered it big time.

Pre and probiotics. Almost your whole immune system is in your gut. It might take a minute to figure out what works best for you. But you won't get sick once you do.

90% of your immune system is in your gut. I tried probiotics a while back. Just gets a bit pricey. Might have to return to it.

Make your own honey and lemon tea. Add a small amount of vinegar (cap full type).

As much as i love the air conditioning in the summer, i think you might be right. Really drys out the air in your house. Apparently dry air has some sort of link to viruses lingering in the air.

Dry Air May Spur Flu Outbreaks. Researchers have long puzzled over why flu becomes so much more active in winter. A new study reveals that dry air is one likely culprit.

Nah. It's because people start going outside with wet hair in front of their moms

I used to get sore throats every winter some so bad I could barely talk for months in end.

Got tired of it last year so I bought a humidifier for the bed room, cleared up the issues within the week. Now I fire it up whenever I feel a sore throat coming on or all winter, just fired it up again last week.

As simple as it sounds, good old Advil is the best treatment for me.

I've been down with a flu for over a week. It started as a sore throat, exploded into massive sinus pain and a hacking cough. Then my voice cracked and broke.

I'm starting to feel human again but nowhere near great.

Same. I was a little sick before going to Ireland at the end of august, came back here and instantly just brutal congestion, mucous, sore throat, no voice in the AM. Clears up a bit in the afternoon but by morning its just brutal again. Had to take multiple sick days and still not better despite anything I've been doing (teas, vinegar, nasal flushes, etc).

If it is the same thing I had during Christmas it could take months before you feel 100 percent again

A lot of supplements add some probiotic to their protien powders. But on it's own whey doesn't have any.

If I get that itchy sick feeling in my throat, a super long hot shower or a hot bath and then going to bed immediately is helpful. I'll do the lots of liquids consumption thing and it helps too. In a pinch, I'll get some cepacol/strepsils and pop one as prevention.

Humidifier helps a ton as well.

I think a big part of it is sending the disease vectors back to school. It’s just a mass breeding and distribution Center for virus and bacteria
