Some great games for week 1. Grey Cup re-match. Debut of the Elks. And Stampeders East in town to play the Stampeders.
Sounds like Toronto's starting QB is still up for grabs after Arbuckle had a hamstring injury in camp. I'd expect him to get the nod though, as it sounds more precautionary than anything.

Season hasn't started yet and already the Lions o-line isn't protecting Reilly.

Stamps backup QB position is a battle between Michael O'Connor and Jake Maier.
O’Connor signed a one-year contract with the Stamps during free agency in February. He beat out Dakota Prukop to earn a roster spot following the final cuts made by Calgary.
Dickenson has not yet named the backup to Mitchell. He wants O’Connor and CFL rookie Jake Maier, who the bench boss noted has “exceeded expectations,” to continue competing in practice for the job behind the two-time Grey Cup champion and two-time league MOP.
“Right now we’re going to keep that backup battle going and see what happens. There are some advantages with Michael that he’s played, I want to make sure that everyone is competing and working,” Dickenson said.

New CFL Covid policy announced today: https://www.cfl.ca/2021/08/03/cfl-mo...-due-covid-19/
Quote:
According to the policy, if a game cannot be played as scheduled because of COVID-19 issues, and it cannot be rescheduled:
• And one club is suffering from the COVID-19 issues, that club will forfeit the game and be assigned a loss while its opponent will be credited with a win by a score of 1-0.
• And both clubs are suffering from the COVID-19 issues, then both clubs will forfeit the game and be assigned a loss.
In both of these circumstances, if a team can prove that 85 per cent of its players under contract have been vaccinated, at least once and preferably fully, its players will receive their salary for the cancelled game. If the team falls below that 85 per cent threshold, the entire team will not receive its salary.
|
I pity the players who aren’t vaccinated and end up costing their teammates a game cheque. I doubt it’ll get to that point though...

TSN was unanimous on the Ticats winning the Grey Cup at home this year. The West should be interesting.

Andrew Harris and Darvin Adams will miss the Bombers home opener against Hamilton. This may impact your selection for the weekly predictor.

Ti-cats sound like the class of the league, do they have any weaknesses?
Who knows in the west?
Bo is back but lots of questions for the Stamps-rookie o-line, new recievers, how will the defence be? No idea about the Elks,Riders and Lions. I'll pick Winnipeg to win the west.

Winnipeg has the biggest question mark at QB (IMO), although having Harris in the backfield will help mitigate that.
I would expect things to be pretty close; injuries and depth could be a big factor.

I'm thinking the Stamps defense will keep them in a lot of games this season. Can Bo and the offense put up enough points to take some pressure off the defense? Pretty raw receiving corps, hopefully Jorden can stay healthy and Hergy Mayala continues to develop (he was really playing well in the latter part of 2019).

Not sure if you heard Dickenson on 960 this morning but he did not sound happy with the pass rush saying they aren’t where they want to be. That’s a bit of a concern. Hopefully that gets settled out.

Arash Madani was saying the other day it's a good thing Bo lost some weight because he might be running for his life some nights. Bo's gotta stay healthy, I've never even heard of their back ups.

Yeah, we'll see plenty of missed assignments and lots of turnovers. I can also see special teams coverage allowing kick/punt returners to have a field day.

He sure did paint a bleak picture for the Stamps on 960 today. Says no team in the league fears the Stamps receiver group for the first time ever since he's covered the league. Says the OL is going to be a weakness and they will have issues running their offense as they have in the past. I have to admit when I look at this Stamps roster I have to wonder how they could be even remotely close to the salary cap ceiling given what the Ti-Cats are fielding. First time maybe ever under Huff where there's been very little star power on the roster. Hopefully some of these younger players break through but this does look like a bit of a rebuild season.

The only team with a proven backup this year is Hamilton. And Toronto if you include MBT/Pipkin behind Arbuckle. I believe Shiltz in Montreal has taken some snaps as well but I don't think he's ever been a starter.
If/when a starting QB goes down that isn't Jeremiah Masoli, things could get ugly. Especially in the West.

New CFL Injury Reports posted daily. This is such a good thing for the league IMO.
Looking like the Argos might be having injury issues with their number one QB as well...

Welcome to the 90's. Joking aside the CFL badly needs to provide it's fans more information like this.
