If the cost is giving up Lindholm, it's too high in my opinion. An aging Backlund as 2C is not a "one-two punch" down the middle.

Backlund is still a #2c but will fall off.

Yeah, thats weird.

People thinking Lindholm would have to go seem to forget that Monahan the center exists.

Unless these are the same people that have that ridiculous Monahan for Dvorak trade in their heads also.

Tbh Lindholm is the only piece I take pause on. Eichel is better, but not massively better. And Lindholm is on one of the best value contracts in the entire league. Hard to part ways with that when the 10M dollar guy has risk attached. The plus on calgarys end in that swap would have to be minimal.

It's a trade that I honestly have seen happen in my mind for the Flames for awhile now.

Usually with stars becoming available the idea feels like a pipe dream. But with the circumstances and needs for the team, this one feels strangely realistic. with the team dropping bombs like the Sutter swap in recent times, and Brad Treliving getting some heat, I feel like a "big play" like this is in the realm of possibility.

Usually, I abhor 'save your job' moves, but Brad, if you think Jack Eichel will save your job...

Save your ####ing job.

My GM for a day plan:

1. Go after Landeskog in free agency. Offer $8 million
2. Sign Coleman in free agency. Offer $4.75 million
3. Go after Gudbranson in free agency. Offer $4.5 million
4. Go after Brossoit in free agency. Offer $2 million
5. Trade Monahan for Dvorak
6. Extend Gaudreau with a raise to $7.75 million
7. Give Pelletier or Zary a shot on the regular roster.
8. Re-sign Dube at $1.75 million
9. Re-sign Valamaki at $1.25 million
10. Re-sign Stone at $950k
11. Re-sign Mackey at $825k
12. Re-sign Lievo at $800k

Lines would be:

Gaudreau Landeskog Tkachuk
Dvorak Lindholm Coleman
Mangiapane Backlund Dube
Lucic Pelletier Pitlick

Hanifan Tanev
Gudbranson Anderson
Valimaki Stone

Landeskog is a LW though, no? So that topline is 3 LWers.

That is correct. But he has played center and does take a lot of faceoffs with a good win percentage.

I think I would look to him over Eichel because you could probably get him for less money and you wouldn’t have to send any assets the other way.

Gudbranson would be #7D in any contending team and we should offer him as much as Tanev gets paid?

The fancy stats say he is very poor. There is a reason why Seattle passed on him and why Chicago, who has cap room, is willing to let him go.

The Flames have 18 mill in cap space. The first three guys basically bring the Flames to the cap without without any money to fill out the roster.

And there's no way Landeskog would sign in Calgary for only 8. It also sounds like Coleman is getting more than 4.75. But Gubranson would get less. The Flames don't need another defensive defenseman. They need someone who can work on the powerplay.

The Monahan for Dvorak trade would be outright bad.

I will agree with the Brossoit part through. And the RFA extensions, more or less.

I think they are having a problem giving him away due to his salary demands and the fact he simply isn't that good in todays NHL.

They might simply non-tender him.

I don't agree with his idea the flames could sign Gaudreau for 7.75.
you want him to stay in Calgary I think you'll have to pay him more, or someone else will.

If it’s an 8 year deal I think that’s close.
