I think it could only truly be evaluated after eichel has played a season with his new team. He could be hindered by this injury and be a shadow of his former self. No guarantees either way.
I do agree though that I would be willing to take the risk and give up Monahan, Zary, Dube/Valimaki, and a first round pick.

Friedman: Flames have begun extension talks with Gaudreau & Eichel speculation

All in all, Calgary should be able to better that VGK offer fairly easily.

I think Zary is pretty close to Krebs in terms of a prospect. Any difference between the two I think is made up for by these value differences as I see them:
Monahan > Smith
Valimaki >= Hague
Flames’ 1st round pick >= Knights’ 1st round pick.

Anyone would be silly to be anti Eichel.
That doesn't mean a lot of ppl aren't blindly jumping into the frenzy of throwing it all away for a player with a serious neck injury and wanting experimental surgery over normal surgery.
I'd be happy with Eichel, I don't like the air around him and his future though.

On his own he might be worth a 1st + prospect which lets the team recoup assets, or a player for player trade for a different area of need. Someone with similar cap hit to make the money work like Matt Dumba. Just some ideas.

Except that you need Monahan's cap to pay for Eichel.... Unless Chucky goes in the trade for Eichel?

Buffalo needs a future goalie? Give them Vladar for Dell also.

I imagine a few teams that have dropped out on eichel are just putting the negotiations onto the other teams. If Buffalo reaches an offer that they’re willing to accept from Calgary/Anaheim, they will probably circle back to Minnesota/Vegas and give them a chance to match/beat the offer.

Oh man I can't even look at these line ups with Eichel in them in anymore unless we actually get him. It'll just be that much harder of a kick in the bag if we don't.

But you don't need that cap space today. Until the start of the season the Flames can exceed the cap by $8.15 m, so it is totally plausible that they could add Eichel today without shedding any salary, can sign UFAs, and move Monahan/Backlund/Tkachuk or whatever in the intervening eight weeks to be cap compliant by opening day.

I want eichel too but I still see a lot of promise in this line up and in the teams future if they don’t acquire eichel. Not getting him will mean the flames will keep the great collection of prospects/picks that they have finally accrued over the last 3 years. And they should still be able to fight for a playoff spot if tkachuk and Monahan return to form.

Of course, but insofar as Vegas is concerned I don't believe they would be able to match. They still have to shed cap-space before the start of the season, and that is even before adding another $10.0 m contract to the mix. They also don't have the draft capital or prospects to make a big push.

For sure, but then everyone knows that you need to dump salary and they low ball you.... I say get it working in the original trade for Eichel... but you may be right.

Optically it isn’t really looking like the Eichel thing is the path we are taking. The “insiders” don’t seem to mention us in discussions around the possibility of a trade. I’m guessing the asking price is way too high as all teams seemed to have backed away.
If Monahan stays healthy and rebounds along with Anderson, Tkachuk, Markstrom and a few others I think we have a pretty competitive roster.
I’d be okay as is. Wondering what others will do if the trade doesn’t happen.

Y'all are not making counter arguments to this by saying we will have essentially the same top 6 but with Eichel looming on the near horizon if we make the trade.

The longer this drags on the more I'm thinking that Treliving is spooked by the injury ramifications. He is a GM who is on his last coach and has not been able to find a proven center. You would think he would pony up to pay the price for Eichel if there wasn't serious question marks about his ability to recover and play after the surgery.

This franchise needs hope, and Treliving needs to take risks to save his position here and his legacy IMO.
Acquiring Eichel is a make or break move, but making no more tweeks and failing to progress deeper into the playoffs is certainly going to spell the end for him, especially without a Gaudreau extension.

Or the ask is truly crazy, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Zary, and 1st or something.
