Hanifin + our 1st for the 4th overall is a big stretch? Give me a break.

Whether it's one 24 year old top 4 d man or both. It doesn't matter. All 4th overall does is push back the core build. Which is absurd. Your talking about paying top assets to keep Gio, betting he can still keep up the pace, lose less cap space than losing Gio. For what?

Sorry you got offended by my massive dislike of your idea. Because it is absurd from my perspective.

Like all I see with the idea is backing yourself to a cliff and the grounds giving way (Gio) and you trade a sturdy rope (Hanifin or Andersson) to save yourself for whatever is in the other person's pocket (4OA).

I really like the top ten in this draft, but not so much to make some wild trade to what boils down to keeping the Captain. It's crazy to me.

Teams lose a player in the expansion draft. That’s how it works.

I am going full on speculation here but I am really starting to believe the Eichel trade could be the biggest deal in terms of teams involved we have ever seen.

Here is a crazy deal that goes down before expansion.

Calgary trades: Hanifin, Monahan, 12th overall, Dube
Calgary receives: Eichel

New Jersey trades: 4th overall
New Jersey receives: Hanifin

Columbus trades: 5th overall
Columbus receives: Monahan, 12th overall

Buffalo trades: Eichel
Buffalo receives: 4th overall, 5th overall, Dube

Flames somehow get Eichel while keeping Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Valimaki, Zary, and Pelletier. They pay a steep price but are able to now protect Gio while adding a superstar captain.

New Jersey gets their young Dman for the 4th pick as rumored.

Columbus adds a needed center while dropping back 7 spots in the first round

Buffalo gets 2 top 5 picks in a draft where they already have 1st overall and they also get a 23 year old C/W RFA who will be cheap and has good upside.

I just don't think we should be moving any D men not named Gio. It's essentially set give or take a ufa 6th and/or 7th. It's the one thing this team has stable and ready to churn and at a good cost cap wise. All make well under 6m, thats pretty stellar. It's almost like it was built purposefully to deal with the eventual departure of Giordano.

Sure, and the video tribute can still sit in in the can until then.

Seattle can load up on depth defensemen to trade for what they need up front.

- Calgary massive overpayment

- Columbus massive winner

- 4 way trade, has it ever happened?

Hot take: Monahan out scores Eichel this year

Is Hanifin worth 4th overall? I'd think no but who knows.

Regardless, I think the odds of that trade happening are so slim I'd feel pretty safe with an eating my own pubes bet.

I would not trade Hanifin for the 4th overall.

I would rather pay that price than Tkachuk, Zary, 12th overall which is often the price that many have said they will pay.

Columbus is eating a 6.375M cap hit without dumping any salary for a guy who has had injuries, declining production, and without his elite playmaking winner. I actually thought the Jackets were the biggest loser in the deal.

4 way trades I do not believe have happened in the NHL but happen in the NBA frequently when big name players are on the move. The Harden deal this season was Brooklyn, Houston, Indiana, and Cleveland. I do get the feeling in order for Buffalo to get what they want they will need multiple teams to be part of the deal.

I think the only way Monahan out scores Eichel is if Eichel misses a bunch of time due to this injury.

I’d like to think Gio’s NTC list of 19 teams he can be traded to doesn’t include Edmonton. I’m not going to fool myself that the Leafs are excluded though.

Maybe Gio can float retirement as an option to scare off the Kraken from selecting him.

Ive been saying this for months.

One phone call to his agent and him being an attractive piece to pick up....evaporates.

Though it would be really hard to just walk away from 7 M.

Has Eichel been cleared to play? Is he working his cutting edge program or is he still waiting for the Sabres to give him the okay to try it? Or will the Sabres force him to have surgery before they trade him?

Do you trade for him before he even starts his recovery or wait for signs of him getting back on the ice?

I get trading solid assets for an elite centre, but there is a real possibility Eichel doesn't play until 2022-23 (and a slight chance he never plays again.), isn't there?

He wants surgery.

Buffalo's doctors have recommended against it.

That's the issue.

Gio doesn't strike me as the guy to pull this kind of crap.
He's too honest and professional to do this, he likely knows he's exposed and figures he'll play out the last year of his contract for Seattle if picked and then come home to retire.

Agree, Hanifin is worth quite a bit more than that.

That's a bluff I would easily call Gio on.

If the Kraken are doing an acquire and trade with Gio I can 100% see him landing with the Leafs and a reunion of the Brodano line. Isn't Gio a Toronto native to boot?

I agree with the massive overpayment by Calgary point but if you look at the actual stats for both players you may be surprised. Of the 6 seasons Eichel has been in the NHL, Monahan has outscored or tied with him in 5 season.

Not such a hot take, IMHO
