Dang, I'll watch this. I continued watching Mr. Dressup a few years longer than the age it was probably geared toward. Was such a lovely show that made you feel nice and at peace.

I wasn't as big of a fan of the final years, the "Mr. Dressup and Friends" era with all the dollar store puppets. It was like when Axl fired the original Guns 'N' Roses...

Agreed. There was always something about Mr. Dressup that seemed like it was great for kids to adults. Almost like he carefully rolled some philosophy into his shows.

When someone said Mr. Rogers was identical to Mr. Dressup, I didn't agree. I don't know if it was some of the Canadianna or some additional facet he rolled into his formula which differed, but Mr. Dressup's show made you feel like you were on a bar stool at the counter in front of him enjoying and learning the whole time. It just sucked you in. This vs Mr. Rogers for me felt a little distant, like you were part of an audience in in seats or acutely aware of watching a program.

I think part of the formula was showing flaws and embracing errors that occurred while filming. I don't recall Mr. Rogers truly doing that, if it didn't work, he'd just move on to the next thing... granted I only saw a few episoes of Mr. Rogers before I circled back to Mr. Dressup.

IIRC Mr. Dressup would do some crafts and then it wouldn't work out, so he'd do it again and have success later? Same as his drawings. Good enough but as a kid you felt like you could probably do better (narrators note: rarely did you do better than Mr. Dressup). It was homely and fun. Like visiting a grandparent that always had something cool to tell you or teach you.

Can't remember which Canadian comedian had a bit talking about how great the sound of Mr. Dressup's scissors were cutting the construction paper for a craft. That was one of my earliest ASMR memory.

IIRC, didn't he use some type of cloth shears as craft scissors? I seem to recall they were a bit bigger than normal scissors and they often had an orange~ish handle? I think it was because he'd occasionally cut felt in some of the crafts and stick them to a felt board? Or am I imagining that? But yes, the sound of him cutting construction paper... ASMR for sure before we knew what that was.

Dressup was a bastard for getting a Ventriculocordectomy (debarking operation) for poor Finnegan!

I was always creeped out a bit by Aunt Bird and Alligator Al. The show was always better when it stuck to the Power Trio of Casey, Finnegan and Dr. D. The Friendly Giant stuck to that formula generally.

I gotta say, Mr. Dressup was just a little too old for me so I dont have the nostalgia, but I think this will certainly be interesting.

The Mr. Rogers documentary was amazing, hopefully this one is just as good.

My parents told me from the time I could talk to around 5 or 6 my units to tell time were Mr. Dressup (30 min) and Sesame Street (1 hr)

"We're going camping at the lake, which is 2 Sesame Streets and 1 Mr. Dressup away"
