As an admittedly very casual metal fan, I can't tell you how often I see this thread bumped, and think to myself 'Oh, maybe there's some new Mastodon content!'

Today is good.

one more Courtney LaPlante collab before the Spiritbox album finally drops on Friday:

really pumped for "Eternal Blue", I can't recall the last time I was that hyped for an album ... I certainly have never been for a debut album.

also, might just be me but are there more collabs in metal these days? Certainly a trend I enjoy. Tatiana of Jinjer has one out now too with Twelve Foot Ninja.

I came here to say the exact same thing. I wasn't sure what to expect from the full album given that they released most of it already through singles, but damn that opening track is probably the best of the bunch. I'm actually having a hard time listening to the rest of the album because I keep putting that one on repeat

To me they sound like a Jinjer/Gojira project band. I think the music is all right but a little derivative.

Diablo Swing Orchestra has a new album coming out.

Their stuff is pretty hit or miss, but it's definitely some of the most unique and fun metal adjacent music.

New song:

A few older songs:

Converge collaborating with Chelsea Wolfe.

The Thou / Emma Ruth Rundle collab last year was incredible too, I'm a big fan of this blending style:

So I walked into a local brewery this afternoon to pick up some beer, and this band was just wrapping up a release party. Decided to grab a CD along with the beer, and I'm glad I did!

Kinda surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

Richie Faulkner was rushed to hospital after a Judas Priest gig on September 26th, with the band saying it was a "major medical issue". Turns out he had an aortic aneurysm on stage right in the middle of playing "Painkiller"! And there was a specialist heart clinic practically in spitting distance from the show site. What are the odds????

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-58814257

Quote:
Faulkner said he had "no history of a bad heart, no clogged arteries or high cholesterol" and that the aneurysm came "totally out of the blue".

"As I watch footage from the Louder Than Life Festival in Kentucky, I can see in my face the confusion and anguish I was feeling whilst playing Painkiller," he added.

The musician, who joined Judas Piest in 2011, said he was trying not to dwell on what would have happened if there hadn't been a specialist heart unit nearby.

"We can always drive ourselves crazy with these things but I'm still alive thankfully," he said. "Whatever the circumstances, when watching that footage, the truth is, knowing what I know now, I see a dying man."

and In Mourning's new album is due in November.

Yeah that Insomnium release is another absolute homerun. Although I'm probably a little biased because that's a top 3 band for me ever since In the Halls of Awaiting came out 20 years ago. But I loved every second of it.

I like this. Maybe too much of a Sabbath clone, including a nearly spot-on Ozzy impression, but still good.
