I've always had a gut feeling that if you do a trade for Eichel that you might be looking at a trade of Tkachuk in parallel at the same time.
Trade 1:
Tkachuk to STL
For
Parayko ($1.5M retained)
Kyrou
2023 1ST STL (Top 10 lottery protected)
Trade 2:
Monahan, Dube, Zary, 2022 1ST CGY, (Maybe 2022 2nd FLA)
for
Eichel
2021-2022 Flames Opening Night Roster:
Gaudreau - Eichel - Kyrou ($3.5M)
Mangiapane - Lindholm - Coleman
Pelletier - Backlund - Pitlick
Lucic - Lewis - Ritchie
Phillips ($750k)
Hanifin - Tanev
Zadorov ($4M) - Parayko
Valimaki ($1.5M) - Andersson
Kylington
Markstrom
Vladar
CAP HIT: $80,638,333
Cap Space: $861,667

I agree that it definitely feels like a fit in terms of media smoke, assets the flames have to trade, cap space and team's maturity. Looking at the other rumored suitors, the only one that really worries me is Anaheim.
They've got better prospects albeit further out but if they're willing to part with a couple of Zegras/Drysdale/Mctavish and some young roster players like Comtois that's some stiff competition.
I don't see how Vegas pulls it off. That leaves the Eastern teams and would test Pegula's resolve, am sure the Rags could come up with a great package as well but then he'll be watching Eichel torch his team for at least 5 years
How long is Eichel going to be out if he gets this disc replacement surgery, going to miss a good chunk of the season I'd guess with how late this is dragging?

He'd still be at $6.75M for 2021-2022.
You'd probably be looking at $7-$7.5M for an extension after that though.
In 2022-2023 you'd be looking at moving Lucic to Arizona in the offseason (or hoping he retires) and that's how you afford the extensions to Parayko, Mangiapane, and Johnny.

I love that at this point its a reasonable assumption that any bad contracts can be sent to the Arizona boneyard.

Generally you can get rid of any contract that has one year left on it.
They just come with a price.
Also Lucic's final year is $4M in real money, with $3M of that being a signing bonus.
Once that $3M is paid by the Flames it will be very easy to move that contract to a cap floor team with only $1M of real money left.

Other than the NMC.

What make you think Lucic wants to go to Arizona?

Oh I agree - just commenting that Arizona has become a clearing house for past their prime, overpaid NHLers. And successfully so, they have 2 firsts and 5 seconds next year I believe.
With regards to the Gaudreau extension, I expect that it will be closer to 8AAV. I do like the look of your proposed roster with all those changes.

If the price is truly futures only, I believe the Flames have the will to get this done. Trick will be who they offload to make room and if that deal can get done satisfactorily.

It does feel like the Flames have the most to gain, and lose, by getting/not getting Eichel.

If Lucic retires, does Edmonton get hit with cap recapture penalty?

I believe the roster that we have today will largely be the same roster heading into the regular season. I would be really surprised if there was any major moves now. Just a feeling. The Sabres are apparently in no rush to trade Eichel so I don't think he gets traded anytime soon. He's injured so this might even drag into the next season.
