Agree 100%. I just expect more from a guy who’s fighting for a better lineup spot, and has the skills to do it (IMO) if he wants it here.

Yup, I think that's why the coach was hard on him. Ward is just trying to steer him in the right direction. Bunch of other players though have had incredibly long leashes.

That's the point I'm trying to make too. It's not that Sam cost a goal. But he did NOTHING there to help. Low effort. And he's supposed to be spotlighting here...

For a guy wanting more ice time he should be showing the coach he wants the job! Doesn't matter what the rest of the team is doing, Sam has to prove he deserves an opportunity. Poor comparison sure but, does Sid Crosby get to play on the top line as a coaster? Absolutely not, he takes the reins and the opportunity and does something with it. He doesn't need a coach to prod him, he takes initiative. Sam has to take that step and find that gear and do what the coach wants if he thinks he deserves more ice time!

I don’t think Sam is really doing any worse then a lot of the other players. It’s more like there is a handful of standouts and the rest are passengers. In addition a lot of the other teams have gotten better while the Flames are treading water.
I think it’s a GM and coach issue. That being said with no gate receipts from home dates you might as well let it play out and trade a few older players. There is really no pressure on the team to perform without paying customers.
