Forecast is N 30 gusting to 50, I don't think there is a big chance of it reversing direction today...

I’m hoping the winds and moisture stay away, my kid is supposed to be riding in the Glenmore velodrome this evening.

I'm actually digging strong crosswinds, fun to have to angle into them. Perhaps it's bringing back memories of crabbing and crosswind landings from my flying days.
But frak off with that headwind this morning. Should have left at 0530 and missed it.

Glad to hear you made it- and sorry I could have been there with you. The wind can be a factor, but usually isn’t this bad.
Figure I’d share with the rest of you why I didn’t join him. Had a major crash on Wednesday. Was taken by ambulance to the hospital. They did X-rays and CT scans, and the doctor told me several times that he couldn’t believe I didn’t have any broken bones- especially my cheek bone. I’m at home now- dealing with the concussion, muscle pain and the facial injuries.
What happened was a lady was waking her dog on the bike path by Fort Calgary. (Yes- where the pedestrian path is right beside.). Anyway- the dog lunges at my bike, and I don’t recall if I braked too hard or swerved too hard. But went flying over the handlebars at 20 km/h and landed head/face first on the concrete. Lady with the dog was an EMT and tended to me, somebody else called 911. Ambulance was there pretty quick and they loaded my bike into the ambulance as well.
So that’s how my week has been. Would rather have been fighting the wind with everybody today. Don’t think I should post a picture, but my boss told me “you can come back to work once you stop looking like a zombie.”

####ty news Ken. Hope you recover quickly.
Stuns me that folks walking dogs on the path fail to see the danger. The ones I hate are the long retractable leashes. An encounter like this could sail have a sad ending for the dog (especially if it is small sized dog) or as kens incidentshowed the rider

Rotten luck on that one Ken. I had a close call just like that on Riverwalk last year too. I was riding westbound in the bike lane, guy walking a corgi heading eastbound was right at the edge of the path along the river. So lots of space between us. Just as we approached the corgi (on one of those retractable leashes) books it over to me barking, guy didn't even have time to react and stop the leash from going out. I slammed the brakes enough but thought the dog was going under my front tire, somehow when the dust settled I was still upright and the dog was fine.

Sorry to hear about your wreck, Ken!!
There's a guy I encounter often on the pathways that always runs with his dog off-leash. The dog's always running to his left....I ring my bell with lots of notice before I pass, and he stops and grabs his pooch and pulls him over. Seems like an accident waiting to happen.

Man, that sucks Ken. Pisses me off. I see so many dog owners who DGAF and don't use leashes, or have no control. I've almost run over a few rat dogs this year that weren't on leashes. I've 311'd to get bylaw to do something about it, but I doubt they will.

That part of the path is treacherous at times. I almost slammed into another cyclist yesterday who cut the corner into my path at the pathway interchange between Inglewood and Fort Calgary.
Hope you heal up fast Ken and can get back on the hog. I always have trepidation after a crash.

I think I’m going to email my alderman as well as Nenshi- and include pictures of my face. Not trying for the easy pun- but maybe putting a face to the issue something might get done.
I had texted a couple of friends to see who could come pick up my bike- the one who also rides was apparently a few minutes ahead of me. He described the woman and the dog- so it wasn’t like she was there for just a moment or something.
I am healing. Concussion symptoms are getting better. Was just nauseous today instead of actually getting sick. Swelling is also going down and I have feeling back in the affected side of my face. At least now I can open my mouth wide enough to get normal food in.
Appreciate all the support!

You shut your mouth! Freaking headwind of headwinds. I actually took my shortest route to work to avoid the worst of it (climb the bluff and then connect to 8th avenue eastbound). Still sucked once I dropped down to Nose Creek from the Renfrew switchback, and Fox Hollow hill suuuuuuuuucked.
However the warmth was awesome.
