I was wondering where everyone was...usually they setup at the Peace Bridge, which is on my way in. Pretty cold to make a stop, anyway!

The usual winter bike to work morning event was changed to an afternoon ride today because of the winter congress. Ride starts at the Central Library at 3pm and goes over to the south side of the Peace bridge for 3:30. There will be stuff set up there in that new park space for the event, and it runs until 6pm. I'm planning to stop by on my ride home to check it out.

A buddy texted me saying I was "a red version of Uma's yellow jumpsuit in Kill Bill".

Went to check out the new Bike Shop. It's really nice inside. They have most bikes on sale for 15% off and most accessories on sale for 20% off. Ryders glasses are 60% off.

I’m curious about the Ryders glasses. I use sunglasses and have to take them off in shady areas which is also when twigs and branches become an issue. Are the Ryders glasses a good option?

I'm not sure on the Ryders, but they had some that fit well and were photochromatic for $90 MSRP...so $36. Damn, now that I did the math, I should have just purchased a pair to try.

I got photochromics from MEC and quite like them. Especially for mountain biking, since I want to protect my eyes from branches and things even if it is cloudy and darker. Generally I don’t even think about having them on, even if it is going from bright to cloudy, open to heavily treed. So I quite like them.

If they had the ryders for 36, I’d be tempted to get a second pair at that price. But I’m nowhere close to that south store.

And now I checked, and found they are on sale on line and I can get them shipped for pickup at another store. So I think I am going to do that....

Ugh, I missed the glasses on sale there.

That has been my bike shop of choice for quite a while now. My guy there was telling me they have something like 2,300 bikes on display and there is another 1,000 or so in the back. Plus they are getting something like 70 more pallets of bikes.

Would seem that despite the general economy here, the bike market remains strong

Have to admit this weather is wearing me down, just dragged on the ride in this morning and really not sure if I'm going to ride tomorrow. Guess it will depend on just how much snow we get.

Good on you guys who are sticking through it. I haven't rode since the cold snap hit. Was going to make an attempt when they had forecast -10 last week, but then that didn't happen. I might have to hit the exercise bike at work; as much as I cannot stand a stationary bike.

It's definitely a grind. I've come up with a formula whereby for every degree it is below zero it takes an additional 1% effort.

I will say though this morning I had all my heating just right, fixed the goggle freeze issue, and with the wind at my back it was quite pleasant. I took my time, and other than sprinting to make it across the lrt tracks, breaking traction in the loose snow and going sideways, before kicking it upright, it was my best cold day ride.

With the snow coming down and the view of the city, I enjoyed it. Oh, the Bow looks to have completely frozen over for the firs time this year.

Oh did I mention my discovery with hand warmers? They require oxygen to work, so when I get in I put them in a heavy duty ziplock and suck the air out. They stop working, then start again when I pull them out for the ride home. I got 3 days(6 trips) out of a set last week.

Cool- thanks! I was actually going to test that out at some point. I know they need oxygen from the Heritage classic game. We were putting them into our boots and mine were the only ones working because I let them warm up first. I was going to see if they could be reused if you deprived them of oxygen.

Yup, amazed at how quick they turn on and off. My boot ones actually stop working by the time I get in becuase the boots are so well sealed, so I give them a few minutes to heat up before putting them in. I did order a set of these though:

as I hate throwing stuff out like that. Will see how they work, if they ever arrive. Unusually slow for Amazon on this one...

I'm getting depressed. I find it too hard on my body and my bike to ride below -15, so I haven't been on my bike since Feb 1st. I could have ridden on Friday, but it was:

1. My birthday and I was hungover from the Sharks game
2. I was exhausted after my kids kept me up all night
3. Had parent teacher conference at 8:15 and we were running late due to the above 2 reasons.

Need a break from the cold so I can get on the bike again.
