I like the Bennett/Monahan duo. I think Bennett needs to play with a shooter like Monahan.

Bennett: Time to actually do something with an opportunity.
Ward: Time to at least give him the whole game there to let him

The good thing is we are playing him a lot so he should get many chances. On pace for 62 starts which would be 3rd most in the league. Some teams have bought into this load management idea and having the starter fresh for the playoffs but the Flames are going old school and riding their starter through December and January.

Interesting Matchup
My guys have been doing better, of late, mainly on the strength of incredible goaltending. Despite being last in "high-danger" opportunities against, Crawford, and especially, Lehner, have been no less than amazing. With DeHaan and Seabrook having had shoulder surgeries, our D-Corps is no better than awful, and sometimes has as many as 3 rooks or limited experienced NHL/AHL fringe guys on the ice at any given game. Keith and the defensively deficient duo of Gustafsson and Murphy are fixtures, Koekoek, Gilbert, Boqvist, are the youngsters, and rotate with Maata.
Offensively, Kane has been the most consistent, with Toews heating up, lately. Debrincat has been snakebit but is getting chances. Strome has been picking it up. Very quietly, a rook named Kubalik is 2nd among rookie scoring, and a rook named Dach has shown promise. You will hardly recognize the names on the bottom 6, except for cast offs Carpenter and Zack Smith, who fill 4th line roles.
Saad, Caggiula, and Shaw have been hurt, along with IRd Seabrook and deHaan.
Our special teams are, decidedly, unspecial. Your guys are as likely to score on 5 on 4 PPs as my guys.
Good luck to your guys, and, as usual, I will be lurking in the GT, as my guys try to close on your guys' 2nd WC spot, after our dismal 1st quarter of the season.

I liked Gaudreau much better on playing with Ryan and Lucic, actually made us 3 lines deep. I hope they keep him their for a while.

I do not believe this is by design. For whatever reason the coaches are gun-shy about starting Talbot. The team has not been great in front of him at all. Starting Rittich in +60 games is not a recipe for success.

How does Talbot not get the start tonight?
As Han Solo once said: "I got a bad feeling about this!"

Lehner is a very good goalie. Flames will need to bear down and finish their chances (hasn't been their strong suit this season)

Interesting opportunity for Bennett given the discussion of the past few days. Hope he stays out of the box and just plays a solid, physical up and down shift. He could be a fit if he's digging pucks out for Monahan and Backlund.
|
Good to sit Dube as well to manage his first season. California Ahl teams only play 68 games compared to the rest of the Ahl so the Stockton guys probably need a bit more work load management in there first year as they Graduate.

Thank you for the kind words, Flash.
And I want to wish all CP members a happy and prosperous New Year!
Sadly, for theFoss, I forgot to buy pineapple juice to make tropical drinks for our New Year's Eve celebration...so the back up plan will be Bourbon and Squirt! Apologies in advance, if my GT posts get less coherent as the game progresses!
