I'm not sure where else they were going to send them other than back to Haiti?

Send them to the U.S. and let them apply for asylum?
If this ends up being a temporary measure where refugees stay a couple of days and are then transfered to the U.S. for resettlement and processing, I'll happily walk back my criticism, but there's not a lot in this administration's recent history to suggest they're going to take a humane approach to this.

Of course the problem is almost no one from Haiti can win asylum, Haiti might be the worse crap hole in the world but 'my countries a crap hole' isnt a reason for asylum to be granted, Haiti may well be in turmoil but it is a democracy with a functioning legal system

As recently as May, the US government recognized that political unrest and human rights abuses had made it impossible for Haitians to safely return to their country, which prompted DHS to#designate#Haitians in the US as of May for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).#Under US law, that status does not apply to new arrivals.#
Since the announcement of the six-step strategy, DHS has reportedly expelled Haitians from Del Rio on five to eight flights a day, and has interdicted people fleeing Haiti by sea. These procedures echo#abusive policies in past years, when Haitian asylum seekers were interdicted and summarily returned, though eventually#some were detained at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba or on ships and screened for asylum. The administration’s actions violate US and international law if it results in denying Haitians the right to challenge their removal to a country where they may face harm, Human Rights Watch said.

The administration absolutely has the ability to accept these people into the country if they wanted to.

They absolutely do. They could accept anyone who comes across the border into the country if they wanted to. But they have a border for a reason.

And I will add, it's not like America hasn't already accepted thousands of Haitians in the past. I live in south Florida...there's a LOT of them here.
What you cannot do is have them flood into the country with little to no hope of stable housing or employment. All you've done is moved the crisis to your country, and there isn't enough infrastructure in place to properly handle them, so it's not really responsible to just have them come here and suffer in a different place. It's best to process them and send them back to Haiti. They can still apply for refugee status and wait in Haiti to get it. At least they'll be with their families there.

Hard not to be overwhelmed by the compassion and empathy in this post. Truly world-class humanitarian stuff here.
This would not look out of place coming from a Trump supporter in relation to his policies at the southern border.
Send them back to Haiti, to a country whose infrastructure has been decimated by a natural disaster and societal collapse. Maybe we can get back to them in 3-5 years. What address should we reach them at, the one that was demolished by an earthquake or one of the many safe houses they'll be forced to hide out in while they await their application to be heard.
But good point. I'm sure there families are alive, well, and easy to locate under current conditions.

Sorry, no, I believe in democracy, and all the messiness that comes with it. Let the majority decide what to do. Anti-vaxxers are not the majority, not even close to it, but they still deserve a vote and a voice for their perspective. Liberty and democracy are important principles that supersede everything else.
God...far too many extreme opinions about what people should be allowed to do based on their vaccination status. I'm starting to agree with Republicans about this. That's what you all have done to me. It's insane...scale it back a bit.
|
People shouldn’t be banned from voting based on vaccination status but their access to voting buildings could be restricted so they’re forced to vote by mail.
You have the right to vote. You do not have the right to endanger other people while doing so.

Anyways, this is good news. No way in hell the defense industry ever lets it get passed, but I always like seeing these things get to the floor and outing which scumbags are taking money in exchange for screwing over the country.

If you dont send them back to Haiti then Haiti is doomed as a country, the US and Europe have been skimming off the talent from the third world for a century either officially by recruiting their doctors and scientists or unofficially by accepting the strongest and smartest who can scheme their way out via refugee and the under ground economy, who is going to rebuild Haiti if all their best brightest and strongest are living in the US?

If there is one thing all this Afghanistan coverage over the past month showed - you do not cross the defense industry without paying a serious price in the media.

Looks like the sham GQP audit in Arizona is finally coming to an end, and so are their wet dreams of overturning the election.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/24/polit...lts/index.html
Quote:
The partisan review of Maricopa County's 2.1 million ballots cast in the 2020 election found a vote count nearly identical to what the county had previously reported, a draft report detailing its findings shows.
The state Senate Republicans who seized on former President Donald Trump's lies about widespread election fraud and ordered up the report and Cyber Ninjas, the inexperienced company hired to conduct it, are set to detail their findings in a public presentation Friday.
The draft report emerged Thursday night, and audit spokesman Randy Pullen confirmed its validity to KJZZ Phoenix. "It's not the final report, but it's close," he said.
The draft report shows that the hand recount found that President Joe Biden received 99 more votes than Maricopa County had reported after November's election, while former President Donald Trump received 261 fewer votes than the county reported.
Maricopa County's Republican-led board of supervisors pointed to the draft Thursday night, saying that it underscores the reality that the county ran an accurate election.
"You don't have to dig deep into the draft copy of the Arizona Senate/Cyber Ninja audit report to confirm what I already knew -- the candidates certified by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General -- did, in fact, win," board chairman Jack Sellers, a Republican, said in a statement.
"This means the tabulation equipment counted the ballots as they were designed to do, and the results reflect the will of the voters," he said. "That should be the end of the story. Everything else is just noise."

Tough break when even your wildly biased review can't come up with a way to lie about the result.

Unfortunately, they might be done either way. No country can undergo the kind of devastation they have as often as they have from natural disasters, and have any kind of positive long term outlook...

Was reading that AOC flipped her vote from 'Nay' to 'Present' last minute, going against progressives who were against the US giving more funding to Israel for their iron dome.

She put out a statement about it that was a lot of words that said very little and didn't explain it.
