Concussions will do that to a person.

Well, any team except for Edmonton. They’re no good.

I think defensive defensemen get a bad rap in the advanced stats era because it’s hard to quantify exactly what they bring.

You can reduce the dangerousness of a shot by doing the following:
1) Prevent screens by cross checking or shoving forwards out of in front of your goalie
2) Tying up forwards in front of the net to prevent them from cleanly getting to rebounds

These types of things don’t reduce shots but make shots less dangerous. Defensive defensemen often are strong at doing them. Corsi makes no distinction about these things. Fans who only watch the puck and never watch away from the puck may also underrate the importance of these things. To notice everything a defensive defensemen brings you have to watch him exclusively live for whole shifts.

Rubbing out forwards along the boards or hitting them can prevent cycling and therefore possession. This could show up in corsi.

Things aren’t as simple as some would like to boil it down to. There is value in having defensemen who can regularly outmuscle forwards in front of the net and along the boards. There are still physical battles in hockey that make/break plays even though the advanced stats struggle to quantify any of it

^ quite simply, if the defense gets the rebound, and no follow up shot is taken, the impact on Corsi is different than if the offence gets the rebound and takes a subsequent shot

Sure.

What about the dangerousness of a shot when you’re being tied up big a big, strong dmen vs getting a free shot? Corsi makes no distinction. I’d rather the forward be tied up. Both are shots. One is a high danger chance, the other low danger.

Yes, I am well aware of the shortcomings of Corsi and many other stats that people are trying to use.

Just that your example also had a pretty glaring shortcoming as well

If Janko is in, perhaps that is why he was essentially the first one on the ice yesterday(along with Rinaldo). As well as one of the last ones remaining on the ice and working on faceoff draws at practice when it ended. Needs to make an impact so it was good to see him working hard.

Scratches usually spend more time on the ice before and/or after practices or morning skates. It's both standard protocol and their way of trying to put more time in to show that they are doing what it takes to get into a game.
