Default RIP Larry King

http://globalnews.ca/news/7595284/lary-king-obit/

Larry King, the suspenders-sporting everyman whose broadcast interviews with world leaders, movie stars and ordinary Joes helped define American conversation for a half-century, died Saturday. He was 87.

No cause of death was given, but he was reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19 earlier this month.

A longtime nationally syndicated radio host, from 1985 through 2010, he was a nightly fixture on CNN, where he won many honours, including two Peabody awards.

Yeah he is one of the real throwback guys.

He asked straight up difficult questions when required, stayed on subject when those he interviewed guests who tried to de-rail things, but was always compassionate and fair.

The art of a good interview is a dying or dead art. He is the bellcow of that talent

The epitome of a New Yorker too.

RIP Larry

I was going to say he didn't as much ask difficult questions as curiosity questions it made him stand out in his field, and he was brilliant for it helping his guests to really open up.

As one journalist (Dan Rather I think). If a reporter goes to a fire and questions a fire fighter he'd ask "How did the fire start?" Larry King would ask "What made you want to be a fire fighter?". The guy interviewed everyone of note, and had no fear at all. He's a tower over modern day journalists.

Regis Philbin, Alex Trebek, and now Larry King all within the span of a year. Damn. RIP to the legend.

I used to listen to him on late night radio when I was a kid, into the wee hours. That type of talk radio was hard to find on Calgary radio and it fueled my love for the format

quite a career, especially because really he didn't hit the (inter)national spotlight until he was in his 50s , but within no time he was about as famous as the people he interviewed

Used to listen to his "Open phone America" in the eighties.
Called in once when they were talking hockey, he was a big Caps fan.

RIP Larry.

Same here. Back when I went to TO to go to school and there was no TV in sight. Blue Jays PBP, Larry King and Dr. Ruth - that was the media entertainment...

I still have my old Pro Set Platinum cards, wherein Larry was #292, "Celebrity Captain" of the Capitals:

Still have fond memories of his appearances on The Late Late Show, especially when he made a guest "appearance" as the voice of Geoff Peterson:

RIP Larry! A true mensch.

Larry was central to all the OJ Coverage.

He had Prince for a rare interview.

Often a guess on Conan - sometimes he was randomly in the rafters.
