I would be perfectly fine with zero Flames players going to this tournament. Or any tournament outside the NHL for that matter.

We all know why Spector left Hamilton on the list which has everything to do with the team that tried and failed to attain him and his ultimate destination rather than merit based on play. I actually applaud him from refraining from putting Reinhart on the list but then again that would look a little too obvious.

I really worry about the players going into a tournament cold like this in the offseason as its not a proper NHL preseason. I just don't know if the bragging rights of having your favorite players on teams outweighs the injury negatives especially in a nothing tournament like this.

Can Team Canada/USA select a u-23 for their own squad if they so choose or is it mandatory that all u-23's must play on that team?

For what it's worth, I don't think there's any question that the NA U-23's are going to become everyone's second favourite team and I think it's going to be alot of fun. I understand the injury concerns but the experience Monahan/Gaudreau and potentially Hamilton will get playing vs the best in the world is invaluable and far more beneficial than anything they will get out of training camp at this point in their career.

The U23s are my first favorite team. Why would they be 2nd?

U23 team is cool in a video game but not IRL if you ask me. Gaudreau would be on the real team USA if they didn't have the novelty teams and there are others in the same boat.

Fact is its not a best on best tourney when countries can't select their best players regardless of age

The U-23 team gets first dibs on any player that qualifies for the age limit.

If Team NA U-23 win the World Cup are they going to play all 41 national anthems?

Still dont know how they messed this up

Call it the Canada Cup

Replace the u23/NA team, Team Canada, and Team World with 3 regional Canadian teams (West/Central/East)

They'll play the hokey pokey and they'll turn themselves around, cause really, that's what it's all about.

From the Flames, likely going:

Monahan
Gaudreau
Hamilton
Giordano
Brodie
Hudler?

Are the march teams set in stone?

I could see Bennett outplaying Eichel and Domi the rest of the year.

How can we be doing so terribly in the NHL standings and still contribute a third of our roster to what effectively amounts to an All-Star competition?

Because they are good players, despite the rest of our team not being very good.

In other news, the NHL and NHLPA have discovered that jersey advertising isn't as valuable as they hoped.

Good.

Good.
Hopefully it's cause sponsors also think this tournament is a joke.

(Wishful thinking, I know)

Gaudreau on a line with Mcdavid and MacKinnon? That should be unstoppable. I'd even go so far to suggest it's borderline unfair.

Can't wait to watch this, lol.

Go U23s!

I'm cheering for the NA U23 team all the way. I'll cheer for Team Canada too if Gio/Brodie are on there, but if not, I actually wouldn't even care about Team Canada to be honest. This isn't some international tournament where country pride is on the line, it's just a preseason tournament put together by the NHL to make more money.

Can't wait to watch it though. I think the NA U23 team is going to be super fun to watch. Might turn into a crazy track meet.

It's going to be an amazing summer for sports fans when we're traditionally stuck with the CFL and nothing much else.

Olympics in Rio.
Euro 2016 in France.
World Cup of Hockey.

I am really looking forward to this tournament.

I wonder if the U23 team has an advantages getting quicker into game shape and playing form vs the vets that need to stretch.
