Flames Last Year/This Year

Inspired by that Reddit meme someone posted (which is basically my first point below), here are some of the differences between last year and this year for me:

Last Year: After every game, I looked at the Wild Card standings.
This Year: After every game, I look at the League-wide standings.

Last Year: I didn't watch every game (and occasionally fell asleep during the games I did watch.)
This Year: Every game is "must see TV" (and I strongly believe games aren't over until the final buzzer, even if we're down by a goal or even two!)

Last Year: I kept looking for players to blame for the Flames' woes.
This Year: I don't even mind James Neal's struggles that much as long as we're winning.

Last Year: I couldn't believe our coach was so set in his ways in terms of player assignments and refusing to shake things up.
This Year: I can't believe our coach is so responsive to the ebb and flow of the games and which players deserve rewards.

Last Year: Johnny Gaudreau was our best player by far.
This Year: We have half a dozen players that could claim the mantle of our best player at any time.

Last Year: E=NG
This Year: E= ENG (Extremely No Good!)

This Year: To save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special

And largely the same group. Some upgraded forwards and downgraded defence.

I wonder what the biggest change was?

Whats that you say? Oh theres actually a man in the suit behind the bench you say?!? What was there before? No, it couldnt have been a broomstick with an elegantly coiffed hairdo!!

People in this country need to stop being fooled by hair. You wouldnt last 5 minutes in Brazil!

It is nice not caring about the OOT, because the Flames are taking care of their own business.

At some point in time earlier this season, a guy I play hockey with told me the Oilers ‘also had won their last x games’. Didn’t realize, didn’t care.

I honestly feel like I deserve this. I've been a slave to this team since about 1995 and all I had to show was 2004 (still a minor at the time) and 2015, which admittedly, was a blast.

But year in and year out it's been mediocrity, falling below expectations, or just plain crap.

I'm soaking this in and enjoying it a lot, and we all should. We've been through a lot fellow Flames fans.

Last Year: Would half-ass watch games while doing other things. Just absolutely sick of 20+ years of losing.
This Year: plan my evenings and weekends around watching the games

Last Year: Hoped beyond hope for players to individually have good seasons despite the worst coach ever
This Year: Looking forward to having two 100+ point players and likely 4 to 5 ppg players.

Last Year: Worried constantly about goaltending
This Year: Rittich - what a revelation!

I look at the Division standings so I don't have to scroll as far to laugh at the Oilers.

I love it. Last night in the final 30 seconds of the game when Peters was barking out orders I turned to my brother and said "Look, our coach is coaching! Isn't this amazing?!".
