And most of the initial reaction here was shock.
He’s clearly fine, or he wouldn’t be playing. It’s all sports entertainment joking.

I don't give a hoot about a player's nationality. Especially one on a rival team.
If anything, I'm impressed by Sweden because they had about 100 players in the NHL last season.

For someone dismissive of patriotism/nationalism, what does the CRO indicate in your username?

I dislike like the Oilers allot, but I'm incredibly proud McDavid is Canadian.

No one is "shaming" McDavid. No one is suggesting he is really on meth. We are just joking about a single picture. Everyone knows that he doesn't look good because he's either sick or worn out.
We also have joked about Kessel's fat face pic, Burns' beard, PullRV's Frankenberry face, etc.

Literally couldn't think of anything else when making a handle.
Just thought it was weird to be "incredibly proud" that a top 5 player in the NHL is Canadian. Not like this hockey player has done something another Canadian hasn't.

Right, so you actually identify as a specific nationality. That's what you're challenging. Not too dissimilar than your strident defending of Modric for the Ballon D'or.
I'm not picking on you, so much as to say people will show their value to nationalism in different ways.

Man, what a year it's been. I ghosted in the WC thread because I couldn't take the excitement anymore and I packed up my little family and we went to Zagreb to take it all in. What an insane experience it was watching the WC Final with 550,000 other Croatians and the homecoming was just as crazy.
I haven't had the heart to re-watch the Final, but I will at some point soon. It's so heartbreaking, yet such a proud moment. Many times I still can't believe I was part of that.
|
Anyway I've thorougly hi-jacked this thread.

So its ok to be patriotic if your Croatian, but a bad thing if you are proud to be a Canadian?
Perhaps you need to think about that one.

The only Coiler game I go to and not only does Lucic double his goal total, but also they win 7-2. Ugh.
Rogers Place is big, but feels sterile. Weird arena environment. The big dumb countdown to start the game was bad, the brass band was worse. This is a place designed to provide a show off the ice, because what is on it is not the least bit inspiring.
