Pops broken serving for the opening set and we're back on serve.
Edit: Oh man, Vasek was up love-40 and Medvedev wins five straight points to hold serve. All square at 5-5

Pops had five set points and couldn't cash in, Medvedev cashes in on his first set point.

It's really hot in Shanghai today and Vasek looks like he is struggling out there. In fact, he just called for the trainer at the next changeover.

Gotta give some props to Pops, hes hanging in there basically redlining most of his shots, but giving Medvedev all he can handle.

What a backhand flick winner down the line from Pops to help close out a quick service game!

Yes. Very admirable performance by Pops especially considering he was feeling very physically unwell since early 2nd set.
2 things have really got my attention about Pops' game. 1) his hard and more consistent hitting off the ground and, 2) he's been serving so huge throughout this tournament, regularly booming in his 1st serves in at 210+ KPH. Don't recall him ever serving that big before.

Greek Yogurt upsets Joker and Zverev just beat Fed. It's a freaky Friday in Shanghai.

Huge assist to Oikos, Nadal now has a great chance to finish YE #1 if he plays in the last 2 events.

Prior to today, Zverev had zero wins against top 10 players in 2019.

He's always had above average pace. That may have dipped somewhat while he was struggling with his injuries though. Good to see him consistently getting results to close the year.

Bold prediction and/or hot take time! The passing of the torch has officially begun, and the Big 3 will only retain 1 out of 4 majors in 2020. Of course there’s nothing to back this up, it’s just pure gut feel.

Medvedev's trajectory certainly seems to be going that way, isn't it? It's been a while since someone on the tour really made everyone stop and take notice. His all-around game is impressive; he's got a great tool kit. Fascinating player.
