We need an intelligent motivator and systems guy.

That's not what I hear about him in regards to his coaching in Minnesota. I don't think you can really blame him as it's a flawed roster that's not good enough to overcome poor goaltending (Dubnyk has been terrible). He's not Guerin's guy and I imagine he was going to get fired in the offseason so he decided to do it now in hopes of maybe jumpstarting the team.

6-3-1 in their last 10 and 3 points out of the playoffs. Ummm......okay?
Weird timing to me. Especially with no other HC ready to step in. Just seems odd.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season. Still think it's a weird move.
Any of these guys would be great choices as the new Flames coach.

Friedman suggesting to keep an eye on Doug Weight for the head coaching job and Down Goes Brown pointing out how many times Weight & Guerin were teammates.
I could see this happening.
Enjoy your perpetual mediocrity Minnesota!

Sheahan said he liked Tippet for the former reasons the other night. Even though that's Oiler stuff, I think he's right.
Whether the systems guy is the HC or an AC, they need that too though. But an adaptable one, not a Babcock.

I agree. Who do you think best fits that bill given the names available and Ward? Gallant and BB come to mind - I think Laviolette may be a little too much on the tough side for this group. I'd prefer BB simply just because Gallant's two firings are very hard to wrap my head around. It seems as though he wears out his welcome very quickly.
Ward seems a little in over his head and I do not think he makes a good HC. It would be nice to invest in a proven quality HC since the number of coaching changes over the years will really hurt development... if it hasn't already.

Come on Flames! You gotta get Bruce Boudreau. He is a great coach, and he is wildly entertaining. He would make the owners money.

I don't think there's much chance of Ward being HC. I think BB is probably the frontrunner, though I would probably prefer Laviolette.
I think Torts would be perfect (and I hated him in TB and Vancouver) but he's going nowhere.

Oh right, this only happened the last 2 times Flames were looking for a coach.
Boudreau was available at the time when Glen Gulutzan was hired and was never even contacted by the Flames.

Why would you think BB would be the frontrunner? Treliving didn't even interview him when he was conducting interviews for Hartley's replacement.

GOAT!

I must be crazy, because I can't stand Boudreau and his constant "What?! We're the victims here!" look that he has, while the players on every team he coaches run around smashing people in the head with chairs.

Treliving doesn't shy away from correcting mistakes IMO. Signed Neal, big mistake, gets rid of Neal.

I would expect Laviolette or Gallant to have been hired before Boudreau was fired.

When Bill Peters was hired?
Alain Vigneault was available, who went to the finals twice with 2 different teams.

Don’t know if the Flames will even be in the conversation for these guys, but it’s fun to dream.

Yeah that’s three really strong, really proven coaches IMO.
In terms of how this core is currently built I think Boudreau is the best fit. He really seems to be able to mould his style to the style of the players his has at his disposal.

If the trend says anything, maybe the flames need to avoid all of these coaches from a different era. I mean; maybe were seeing this generation refuse that style?

I would be fine if the Flames play the season out with Ward and then decide.
I am not convinced that we would be getting better results with another coach. Ward seems to be doing fine IMO.
