Lots of talk about the CBA extension including a return to the Olympics for NHL players. Thought it'd be some fun to look at the roster(s) might look like
Hall, McDavid, Mackinnon
Bergeron, Crosby, Marner
Taveras, O'Reilly, Marchand
Giroux, Seguin, Stamkos
Schiefle
Doughty, Pietreangelo
Burns, Parayko
Chabot, Reilly
Makar/ Gio
Price
Holtby
Hart

Point and Barzal probably get some serious consideration too. Speed to burn

The American roster is no slouch either, they keep producing more and more elite talent.
Kane - Matthews - Wheeler
Connor - Eichel - Boeser
Gaudreau - Larkin - Tkachuk
DeBrincat - Miller - Keller
Hughes - Carlson
Krug - Fox
Werenski - Jones
Gibson
Bishop
Hellebuyck
Canada has the edge still IMO, because like always they will carry so many more natural C's and play them on the wing.

I can’t see Toews being left off the list, especially for Taylor Hall. Although that 1st line would be blazing fast.
Also the Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron line should be kept together.

Yeah Toews has put 0.92 points per game the last two seasons. Hard to leave him off if he keeps that up, although he's 32 now and this event is two years away.

This is such good news that we will again have a meaningful best on best tournament. It is nothing but good for the game of hockey.

Toews might get the nod simply because he can centre an elite checking line and is spectacular on shoot outs. He’s also a big game player.
But a lot will tell how he ages over the next two years.

Can’t see how Hall will be left off team when he has a 121 point season with the flames in 2021.

I don't think it would be that surprising to see a 21-year-old Alexis Lafreniere make that team.

I don't know about that. The roster in the OP features ELEVEN forwards who have recently registered +90-point seasons. As good as Lafreniere may be, he is still likely two or three years from matching the impact of any player in that list.

Not sure people should be ignoring Lafreniere. He'll likely have a spot on this team.

Based on what exactly?
I mean, Crosby was touted as the best player in the draft since Lemieux, and he went on to a 100-point rookie season, yet this was not enough to make the cut for the Olympic roster. I tend to think that as good as Lafreniere may be he will still be a significant longshot to make the 2022 Olympic Team Canada.

B team is a much more interesting debate. Mix of young and old.

Reason: Beaten to it with a very similar roster.

If Monny and Couturier both make the team, it seams unlikely they move the 200 foot defensive Couturier off centre for Monny.
