I just wanted to give a bit of a testimonial/recommendation for Locke. I've used him personally for the past few years and I definitely should've bitten the bullet and done it sooner! I have plenty of tax training and awareness being a Certified Financial Planner and having taken a number of courses in the area. So I figured I could just file my own taxes and take care of everything....and I did. I think in the first visit to Locke I realised that for a number of years I failed to claim about $5-$7k in write offs a year. In case you're bad at math that's a fair amount of money that I would've preferred not to give to the government!

The lesson I learned here is that while I might think that I have the expertise and knowledge to deal with these things, Locke does this everyday, and all day everyday. While I go through a tax return once every twelve months he's seen plenty of them. So he just takes care of things and I just get my junk together, show up and he takes care of it. While I doubt that everyone will find missed deductions in the same amount as mine, the fact is that having a professional do this for you is not only smarter because its done properly, its more convenient!

I will also add that he has given me all kinds of advice in terms of some of my various plans and how they might affect my taxes going forward. I have referred others to him as well and never heard a bad word back.

tl;dr I would recommend Locke. If you ask really nice he might even pour you a small scotch to dull the pain of your tax bill!

I second the recommendation above. He's been doing my taxes now for a few years (should have gone sooner), and also, he's now doing them for many of my friends and family. He's been handling people from my circle in all different types of employment situations (employed, self employed, unemployed, possible mafia - jk), and every person I've sent to him tell me later that they're very happy with him, as am I.

If you don't mind me asking - what's the typical cost of preparing a return?

I start with a base rate of $85, which tends to cover a typical return, unlimited slips, T4s, T3s, T5s, RRSPs, etc, but based on complexity the price increases.

Another bump for awesome service. If you are not using Locke, it is costing you thousands, wait .....millions of dollars.

With Locke's outstanding work this year, my tax return is large enough to buy a 46' Catamaran and a 1/4 share in a private jet. I was hoping for a 1/2 share... but beggars can't be choosers. Also I appreciate the solid advice as well. I never thought about having a getaway bag, unregistered/unplated vehicle, and a 2 year supply of nonperishable food items hidden in the woods... just in case. And I quote... "Seriously pylon, I'm not joking.".

Thanks Locke!

+1 for Locke. Just used him for my very overdue, very complicated 2013 return.
Was disgustingly easy to communicate with, and he was awesome in person as well.
Extremely pleased with the service, and will be back soon for my 2014 return.

Also, not only is he awesome with taxes, he also answers questions that save you money. He knows his business very well. If you have anything even slightly complicated (child tax, RRSP, etc) you should go to him. Stay the hell away from that two letter block company that hires retirees for a month of the year, and just go to him.

Yup. I don't know how many people I know that go to that 2 letter place for the sake of convenience, and the fact it's cheap and you get an instant refund.

1- It usually isn't cheaper unless you are doing a super basic bare bones return.

2- They absolutely will not do anything but the absolute most conservative write-offs. They might as well be revenue canada employees.

3- And if you have a pro e-file for you like Locke. You get your money direct deposited in about a week. Two letter place, gives you a frikkin Visa gift card now. Try putting a house down payment or buying an RRSP with that.

The 2 letter place is like going to McDonalds for dinner, Locke is like going to Caesers Steak house.

Thanks guys, that brings up a good point that I should mention; I dont do this as a fly-by-night seasonal tax service thing, this is my business and I operate year-round and am always available for assistance and advice.

I have been using Locke (Klassen Tax Services) ever since I moved to Calgary three years ago and have been very satisfied. Since I moved here for work and still owned property in Ontario, I needed someone who understood the tax rules between provinces and Locke did not disappoint.

Another satisfied customer here!

I decided to use Locke after reading some testimonials here, and it was quick and painless with a fair base rate. Thanks Locke!
