I think next year is the year the defence gets overhauled.
Parekh
Kuznetsov
Solovyov
Poirier
Brzustewicz
All have a shot at making the main line up.
This year and last added a lot of young forwards.
Coronato
Klapka
Pospisil
Zary
Frost
Farabee
I don’t see many more young forwards ready to step in within the organization. If the forwards are touched at all it will be via UFAs or trades. Flames need goal scoring and have tons of defenders. I can see some defencemen being traded for forwards.

I think the Sabres are going to need to move Byram. He is putting up similar numbers to Power and is likely to be asking for similar dollars ($8M). It is going to be very difficult to keep him while also giving raises to their other RFAs.
If they try to lowball him then he likely insists on a 2 year deal to walk himself to UFA.
I wouldn't offer sheet him but with the Sabres already saying the Flames are not good trade partners just a couple of months ago, I cannot see that really being much different now.

Peterka doesn't make sense. He is second on the Sabres for points and I expect that they are going to lock up him, McLeod, and Quinn. Also, the cost to acquire him is going to be in the 1st+2nd+3rd bracket.

What would it be worth? Do the Flames have anything they can put together?
Centre Michael Misa looks really interesting. Teammate of Parekh, brother of Flames prospect Luke Misa. 134p in 65gp.
|
I would love it if the Flames could make that trade and get Misa. I wanted that even before this season started.... I just cannot fathom what we could offer that the Sharks might have interest in outside of a package built around Andersson and our 1sts.
The Bruins could make an interesting offer. If they are heading to a full rebuild then maybe Pastrnak would be willing to waive his NMC. Would the Sharks do their 1st for Pastrnak straight up? Would the Bruins expect more than the Sharks 1st for a guy scoring 40, 61, 47, and 43 goals over his last 4 years?

Is Misa worth a boat load of picks + Andersson? In a year where we don't already know who is going first overall, I wouldn't make a huge move to move up to #1 personally.

It wouldn't matter what it would cost, the Blackhawks would match it.

Personally, I would back up the truck, and there's few assets in our organization I wouldn't be willing to give.

That makes you hope the Sharks don't win the lottery.
If they are picking 1st overall they just take Schaefer
But if they drop to 2nd or3rd then maybe you can find a way to trade up

The short answer is Yes.
The Flames have pretty good pieces coming together in all of the other positions. I would easily give up Andersson and/or all of our draft picks for this year to the Sharks for Misa. I just don't think they would go for it.
Maybe if the deal is Andersson + NJD 1st + Mews? Or swap Mews for Brzustewicz?
I don't know how far one has to go to make it realistic but at the same time I know that a lot of the bias here will say that whatever we offer won't be enough....

Question would be what makes sense? They would want now players you would assume if they are willing to move the pick.
Anderson, nj 1st this year, our first next year. Coleman might have some interest, maybe pospisil. Could another team beat that probably, assuming Parekh is off limits.
Possibly some of our wing prospects could come into play if their scouts really liked a guy.

Imo the only sliver of a chance we have to trade up for Misa comes if we win the lottery and have 6th OA. 6th+ Mews+ something else painful if the type of cost. No way anyone wants Andersson in this type of deal.
Who would do 6oa+ Coronato? I would.

Would rather just pick one of the Cs that will still be there at 6, and keep Coronato.
If you can work it with picks and Andersson, great, but I don't want to give up one of the few good pieces we have

Speaking of the other Misa, Luke Misa, I haven’t seen anything about him signing or going the NCAA route. Luke had a good regular season and 12 points in 6 playoff games. I’m curious if anyone has heard anything?

I expect that if the Flames are in the conversation at all, it is because the Sharks want to upgrade their D as it is their weakest position. Andersson is an immediate upgrade to their D and if we can add an enticing D prospect then maybe there is a possible trade.
I don't think they would want any of our forwards... but maybe they look at Coleman as that veteran cup winner who won with Goodrow and think they could be a mentoring powerhouse for the kids.

If the Sharks are picking 2nd or 3rd, Schaefer is gone and they are open to trading their pick for help on defense.. the Flames would conceivably be able to make a strong offer with all of our D depth.
Flames: 3rd overall (Misa)
Sharks: Andersson, Brzustewicz, Poirier, 1st round pick (25'), 2nd round pick (25').
Help on D short term: Andersson (Extension in place?)
Help on D medium term: Brzustewicz, Poirier
Help on D long term: 1st round pick 25', 2nd round pick 25'
Would that be enough? You don't see top-3 picks traded often because of the potential star factor, but San Jose is stocked on forwards already and this would fill in the gaps in their lineup quite well IMO. Thoughts? Out to lunch?
It's a bit uncomfortable decimating our defensive depth, but that's usually a sign that it's close to fair value, no? Flames would still have Weegar, Parekh, Bahl, Pachal.
