What's surprising to me is the lack of skill and athleticism on display. I watched Canada vs. France womens 3v3 and EVERY outside shot wasn't even close. The only baskets from either team were layups.

I expect new Olympic sports to take some time for the quality of competition and skills to improve, however basketball isn't new.

Very solid badminton match by Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong to win another gold medal for China!

Awwwww how sweet! After winning the gold medal in mixed doubles badminton, Huang Yaqiong's bf (who is apparently also competing in another event) comes out from backstage with a bouquet of flowers to congratulate her and then goes on one knee and proposes. Good work!

Someone on day 6 said what is cool about the Olympics. I think its watching how stars like NBA players go out and suppourt other athletes and watch other sports.

You don't see that in the pro leagues obviously, but its cool to see how they do it for their country. People popping up to random events to take it all in.

After not Qualifying for all my living memory, to have such a solid squad on the international stage all of a sudden is pretty wild

I know there’s time constraints but I wish golf could find a way to incorporate some kind of mixed team event for the Olympics
They don't invent formats in the Olympics, it's not about putting any two people together. There needs to be an established format and qualification. Unless LIV or someone else starts doing regular mixed doubles, it's not coming.

for example curling, they had normal curling for 5 olympics (1998 to 2014). During that time, mixed doubles started gaining traction with actual tournaments and world championships and open qualification for the olympics was introduced in 2018

Dillon Brooks too. Great team all round, and I am really enjoying this basketball.

We are also extra invested in my household, as married into Greek family. With Greece blowing their big half time lead earlier, now need Canada over Spain by 4+ and Serbia to beat South Sudan by 3+ tomorrow for Giannis and Co to advance also. (If I understand tiebreaker correctly).

First set to Felix and Gaby 6-3. Gaby is playing great today, so solid at the net. Felix looks good as well, hammering ground strokes and giving the Dutch team trouble.

We are really fun to watch with our aggressive perimeter defence.

The Swedish guy who beat the #1 early in table tennis has made it all the way to the final, so maybe it wasn't a fluke or a broken paddle.
